Different engine I know but I have a mate who uses it in his TD5 Discovery. 1O litres in the tank every time he fills it up. In a year, he has had no issues with the oils mixing and staying mixed, the engine or performance. Only problem is, its like following the mobile chip shop (for us old enough to remember them!!) Its well worth doing the research I reckon.

Im just wondering when the guy that invented the performance engine that runs on water, (who clearly gets paid millions a year by the fuel companies to keep his mouth shut,) will come forward!!

It works fine. Depending on the weather (ie if it's hot) I used either a 50/50 mix or 75/25. 75% veg will be fine as long as the ambient temps are high otherwise you'll struggle to start it. 50/50 is a good compromise as it works in most conditions.

i thought i would try 40 litres in my a6(2.5 essentially the same as a 1.9 80tdi) at the weekend as the localish biodiesel place is closed on sundays.Had a real job starting it on sunday morning, when it eventually did clouds of smoke covered the street,i have a feeling this is down to the fact that the glow plugs are not used at temps of above 8'c not sure if that is the same with the 80 or not?,went down to gti and it ran fine but when i came to start it up again at the end of the day the glow plug warning light started flashing, indicating there is a fault on the engine somewhere.Got home and checked the fault codes and the needle lift sensor(attached to one of the injectors) was showing an intermittent signal.Dont think i will bother with vegoil again myself as it isnt any cheaper than biodiesel you can get out of the pump(94.9p) and it runs like a dream on it as well and you dont have the arsing around of putting into the car.Personally i dont think it will be too long until a litre of vegoil cost's the same as diesel.

That's a lot of veg oil. That would be about a 25/75 derv/oil mix. Far too high. 50/50 or 75/25 (winter) is recommended IIRC.

I'm just working on a new BBC2 series of this

There should be some info from **** Strawbridge who ran a landrover on biodiesel for a year.. this is of course old chip oil that's been chemically worked on to make it work same as diesel... One convern tho' is that apparently it rots rubber hoses, to you might need to replace them with plastic

i think its anything with the high pressure injectors pump (from approx late 90's onwards) that doesn't last too long running it sadly,i believe it's the injectors that fail on them.

@Spink - where are you getting pump biodiesel for 94.9p per litre?

I have been looking around in teh southwest, found a local place that does £1.10 per litre but haven't had chance to catch them... 94.9p sounds worth buying 1000 litres and stockpiling

Afraid not, there is a law against that too!

I was limited to 2x 5 litre fuel tanks when "stock piling" for my trip up to Scotland, where the nearest v-power is 100 miles away, last year.

its near york so not much use to you im afraid Ross.

well, they used to sell people 1000 litre containers of it but stopped that recently when the fuel started getting crazily expensive, they also stopped people filling up jerry cans etc,now all you can do is fill your tank up.

there are quite a few places across the uk but like you say some are only open for a short time, such as another that is about 20 miles from me,its only open for 2 hours per week

it's really worth hunting them out though as i save nearly £30 per tank using biodiesel!!

Anyone remember that movie "Mad Max" ?

I reckon thats what most of the civilised / motorised world could descend into if the fuel situation continues to worsen...
