  • audi rs2 under headlight trim 3D print groupbuy

    Hello,

As I sold quite some rs2 parts I get a lot of people asking for the rs2 left and right under headlight trim pieces.
I have a good set that I can get scanned and 3d printed. But it only makes sense for paying for a professional 3d scan if enough people are committed to buy a set

    prices excluding shipment:

    set L and R prices:
    5-10 sets: 350 euro
    10-15 sets: 280 euro
    15-20 sets: 260 euro
    25+ sets: 240 euro

Please reply to topic if interested and build a buyer list

It's good to see someone looking into this, I'm in need of a pair but I've given up hope of ever finding some. However, the price of these is just too high for me. Have you considered more conventional production methods such as injection moulding? I would be interested to know how the cost compares.

I will check some more techniques and different 3d print suppliers for getting the price lower. But it only makes sense to put in the effort if there are people interested in buying. dropping below the 200 euro mark would probably help getting interest going on this. Not sure if that is possible.

Injection moulding would be to expensive for small quantities.

What material are you planning to 3D print them in?

I think they could be done in SLS to keep cost down, I would think you could get 10 done for around 200-300 euro.

I mean the are not high if they are printed laying down and you normally pay for the height.

Have you tried asking materialise.com in Belgium? Normally they have good prices.

If you have some measurement I could do a rough 3D file and ask a couple of Danish suppliers. I use to work for a 3D prototype company.

Normally they are very competitive on price.

I do still have some contacts in 3D scanning as well if needed. But 3d scanning can be done cheap if you can do some surface modelling in 3d?

I'm not sure that any plastic 3D printing technique would be able to cope with the force needed to remove this piece from the mounting-point in the front fender. And who would be the one to test this on their 300 euro parts? Maybe it would be possible to make these mounting pieces on the trim replaceable though. Any other opinions?

Also, I don't think this trim is anywhere near sophisticated enough to need 3D scanning - very precise measurements and photos should be enough (or a simple 3D scan with some extra surface modelling as Jonas_R suggested).

I can do any 3D modelling necessary for this project since I would also be interested in a set

Hello guys. Are this piece rs2 specific?
I dont know if we are talking about thesame thing. Do you talk about this part?

Yes, that's the part. On the RS2 it's curved to match the line of the bumper, on all other models it's flat.

If anyone has a 3d file try uploading it to the proto labs website for a quote as an injection mould.

I can do these in vacuum cast polyurethane which is 90% as strong as injection molded ABS and with equal surface finish, but I need samples to work from
