    GB:- K24R 302mm / 314mm rear brake kit batch

Following the development of the 302mm and 314mm rear brake upgrade using stock calipers and pads with larger discs and adaptors, I am looking to get a batch of parts made up.

I've done my sums based on a batch of 5 of each kit and due to how close the brackets are in price, the cost will be £120 delivered in the UK for a kit comprising of:-
    • 2 x Brackets - Zinc coated mild steel (chosen over the cheaper alloy option)
    • 2 x Spigots - Zinc coated mild steel
    • 8 x M12 20mm high tensile fine pitch bolts
    • 1 x 17mm HSS drill bit
This is very close to my initial estimate of £100 all in + post and the extra cost has gone in to making the brackets from steel and providing the correct fine pitch bolts, over normal pitch bolts, at nearly 10x the cost, each!

To complete the kit, you will need to buy:-

    302mm x 11mm thick rear discs from a Mazda 5:-
    • Brembo - 08.A711.10
    • Apec - DSK2752
    • National - BD1600 (for grooved & black coated PBD1600GB)
    • Pagid - 54482

    or

    314mm x 11mm rear discs from a Mazda 6 MPS:-
    • Apec - DSK2723
    • National - PBD1564GB (for grooved & black coated PBD1564GB)
    • Mintex - MDC2027

    New brake pads, if required:-
    • EBC Yellows - DP4370R
    • DS2500 - FCP596H_25

Cheapest discs & pads are about £60 delivered for the lot!

    302mm 'basic' setup:-

    314mm Rusty setup vs. stock:-

    314mm under ABY Avus:-

Both setups fit under 16" ABY Avus without spacers and require no modification to handbrake lines or removal of hydraulic parts.

The 302mm option uses a current production disc, whereas the 314mm uses a rarer disc from a 5 year old car. In that respect, it's up to you which setup you go for...

No problem at all. Add about £15 for Airmail to Europe, £30 for FedEx to USA. RoW at cost.

      This setup uses:-
      • 302mm rear discs from a Mazda 5 people carrier(!).
      • 314mm rear discs from a Mazda 6 MPS saloon.

For anyone abroad, see if you can source them locally, as I'm not sure what Mazdas went to what market.

The 302mm discs are very similar to Mondeo and Volvo discs, which will require machining of the centre bore and new bolt holes adding but this will be cheaper than mailing discs from the UK. If you need to use this setup then the kit cost would be cheaper, as you will not require the spigots. The same option goes for anyone in the UK with access to cheap machining or a lathe, who don't want to run spigots.

I do not believe that the 314mm discs are available for any other car but I would have to check again, now that I've designed it all.

      In short:-
      • The kit price in post 1 is for a DIY at home bolt-on setup.
      • There are other options, if you have access to a machine shop or cannot source the Mazda discs.

Rusty - probably mentioned elsewhere but can you confirm which option is a straight bolt up and requires no additional machining/re-drilling?

The only thing you need to do is to drill out the bolt holes on the discs to 17mm. I did this with a single speed drill in about 10 minutes, so it's very DIY. The rest of it is bolt on, as per the thread.

Maybe a stupid question, but will this work on C4 chassis cars?

It replaces the 245x10 solid discs, so as long as they're the same hat height as B3/4 and the carriers are the same, it should work...

Just wondering if you have done any on road testing and noticed much difference in braking performance and the car's behaviour under braking compared to stock?

It's next on the to do list. Larger rear brakes will settle the back end under hard braking.
