    Autospeed Intercooler Spray Kit

I was thinking of getting the Autospeed Intelligent Intercooler Water Spray kit:

    Part 1

I was going to get the boxed module, 2 sprays and a pump.

It works out at roughly £170 including postage. Then all you nead are some brackets and hose.

If there was enough interest I would ask if we could get a discount.

It seems a bit expensive but is a neat piece of hardware.

    Anyone interested?

seemed pretty overpriced to me mate, looks quite good though.

Could be worth seeing if can get the sprayer's bottles etc cheaper else where and just buy the control box for it which has the PIC program emedded in the chip.

That's why I wanted to see if it would get it a lot cheaper if we could buy 10 or so kits.

The control box would be a good group buy. I'm sure we could get the nozzles from a supplier over here. As for the pump and reservoir the headlamp washer pump would do the job (although you would lose your headlamp washers). I'll have a look on ETKA and see if they do a washer bottle with an extra hole. Alternatively a two way pump could be fitted, like they have on all the new stuff - power one way sprays front screen, other way sprays rear.

I'll try and track down a UK supplier of the nozzles, etc and look into the pumps, if you like.

Probably better with a smaller auxilary sprayer to use wouldnt it? because you wont want the washer fluid in it too will you?

I was under the impression that the alcohol content of screen wash gave a higher cooling effect than water alone. Admittedly you wouldn't want bubbles on the intercooler, but the newer VAG screenwash designed for fan type jets generates hardly any bubbles and has a very low viscosity so shouldn't block the nozzles.

And it's got a lovely lemon fragrance.

I got to CC, last minute dash on friday night to get the car back, get it washed and get it fueled up.

Don't worry about the paint. If I can find some way to package it so it doesn't rattle I can post it to you. Your a little bit far to deliver it by hand Although the missus wants a holiday up north.

I've emailed Spray Systems asking who I can get their bits from, I'll let you know when I get a reply.

Here's what Autospeed offer as discount:

                    2 Off 10%
                    5 Off 12%
                    10 Off 15%
                    15 Off 17%

                    No discount on shipping.

This was on the kit, 2 sprayers and pump. I'm definitely interested - probably worth doing it in pairs if there is a lack of interest. They would would want a one off full payment!

That DOES look like a nifty bit of gear alright. Don't have the money at the minute, but I'd be game to help someone else install it in the name of free research

                        UPDATE:

Spray systems are sending me a catalogue and price list. They say they will be happy to sell a small order (I've guestimated at 20 jets and associated bits) direct. I would imagine the prices will be better than Autospeed.

As for the reservoir a separate tank may prove to be the easiest fitting, as it will negate any overcomplicated wiring. I would imagine a tank could be fitted behind the front panel down near the intercooler (opposite side to the oil cooler). Perhaps a rear screen wash bottle (or something bigger) could be adapted. You could fill it through the hole next to the aux rad.

                        Doug,

Will they not offer a price for the boxed controller on its own? Or with the two thermistors and wiring loom? It seems a shame to import bits that we can get over here for less money.

Ben - I had asked for the bulk buying discount before I had posted on here - I will ask again if these discount percentages apply to just the boxed kit.

The 10% for 2 Off is still not too bad and less hassle for orgainising.

I like the idea of it's own water bottle - what sort of prices are OEM water bottle and pump?

Water bottles come in all shapes and sizes. The best bets will probably be the ones from the newest cars as they all retail around £16+VAT. New Polo bottles seem to be a good bet at 4.5 litres. It's a square design with a long filling neck. Could probably sit quite low down behind the front panel without disturbing the air flow to the main radiator.

Pumps are between £10 and £20 retail.

I need to find out the pressure that the pumps run at so we can work out the best jets for the job. Spray Systems say they can have one of the engineers discuss it with me.

Any ideas how to measure the pressure? I don't fancy rigging my boost guage up to my washer system to test it.

What are we wanting to buy from Autospeed?

You can get the box of tricks with wiring looms for approx £114 delivered (before discounts).

Or you can get the populated PCB and thermistors for approx £59 delivered (before discounts).

Are we going the cheapest route or easier route here? And I'll get back onto Autospeed?
