1991 7A Coupe Sloppy Shifts

My '91 Coupe's shifter has a sloppy feel. When I pull on the shift lever that goes through the pivot ball, the pivot ball moves up and down by about 5 mm and the lever rotates in both directions about 20 degrees from neutral.

What's the remedy for this? Is the pivot ball a wear and tear item? I dont want a short shift kit and I want to keep my reverse lock out.

Pivot ball and socket are a service item.


The reverse lockout on the 5 speed is in the gearbox.
