guys guys guys......
The o-ring will always be stronger than a silicone hose!
An o-ring holds 500bars without a problem!
as long as the "seat" has it's correct dimmensions and is clean.

Steffen - somehow I don't think Audi used the same exacting tolerances on the infamous intercooler O-ring as you would find normal in 'offshore' applications
Doesn't it bother you that the intercooler O-ring just happens to be exactly the same part as the seal for the thermostat ? :wacked:
I changed mine at the weekend and found the original O-ring to be less than ideal. The 60/70mm hose mod is great peace of mind...
Yeah l've noticed that is it the same o-ring for the termostat.
The dimmensions in the groove is not diffucult to machine correctly, I've just repaired an rs2 IC and I measured the o-ring groove and the diameter on the pipe that goes into it, looked into an o-ring table, and all dimmensions are perfect.
Many are suprised by the slack in a o-ring application, but that is the way the are designed to be
Well, Im no o ring expert but what i do know is that those o rings are *****!
I have replace 3 since running high boost. That mod pipe, is strong and has not broken yet. Last o ring lasted 2 months!! And yes the IC is ok and the pipe is good, and i used a new genuine seal.

I have had endless problems obtaining a 70 to 60 reducer for this mod. None in South Africa and when I asked Paul N to send one with my Samco hoses, SFS told him there is a 8 week wait!
Luckily, I remembered Glen's post and in desperation I got a 63 mm straight silicon hose for GBP4 today (I hate this american keyboard without a Pound sign ). I struggled a bit to get the hose on the IC but after streching it a bit using my vice grip, I managed to get it on! I am sure it will work just as well as the reducer and as Glen said it is a lot cheaper! Below a pic before fitting the pressure pipe - which will only happen once my SAMCO's arrive - the Courier companies are driving me (and Paul N) to
Glen, do you have an easier way of stretching the hose onto the IC?

Just a quick note to add. Straight 63 mm hose WILL stretch to 70 mm and easily crushed to 60mm. works a treat! and @ £5 for an off cut from a local supplier damm cheap too! (but thats just me! a cheap skate!)
drop it into some boiling water for a minuite or so.

Forgot to add that I did soak it in boiling water - the other thing that made it easier was when I cut the pipe down to 5cm (which should fit perfectly as in the photo) from the 10cm I had bought - it is easier to stretch a smaller pipe it seems.

i would like to ask this.
If you do the intercooler mod,is the O ring still needed to be in there?Do i still have to use one?
Are the 2 metal hoses going into each other by doing this mod,or are they hold on together by the silicone hose only?
Im asking this cause i have just bought the intercooler silicone hose, and i dont know whether i have to order the O ring again from audi or not!
thanks
