3B Oil Cooler Replacement

hmm, another item to add to the NLA list...quietly it grows larger and larger. The odd cup that looks like the retainer for a top mount but is used on the drivers side rear diff mount is also NLA i found earlier in the week too

Would be good to get that T4 cooler part number - looks like a subtle mod

Im working on an upgrade kit for the oil cooler that will fit in the standard location. Got a box of bits arrived and goto make up some bracket templates next.

when you undo the cooler its best to take off from the filter housing since these dont tend to seize as much and then work on undoing the other pipes once it is off the car, you can unscrew the adaptors alot easier then.

its the same oliecooler form a t1 , you need the t4 cooler its the same as the 3b and t1olie cooler but bigger.

The slightly larger oil cooler with part number 021 117 021B can only be bought from Audi classic and is 278 euro and it is an exchange part.

The seals are also nla.

You can still get the seals from VW Heritage ( see link above ) they are common to the Beetle so I'm sure they'll make them forever for them

I shall be working on the S2 again in a few weeks time when I take the engine out and will build up a list of all parts required. There is small amount of fabrication required to make the brackets to mount the cooler but its pretty easy stuff.
