I didn't factor in aircon since it wasn't mentioned in the OP, but if you have it, use it and keep the windows closed.

Alternatively, as also said above, a commercial dehumidifier is a good option if practical for you.

[edit: fricken typical, I reference the post above and I'm page-2'd. Well, you know what was meant to be above]

      Phil,

Agreed, you originally asked how to get rid of the resultant problem, the condensation, but in order to rid yourself of the problem once and for all, do you not need to get to the source of the moisture creating the condensation, rather than just deal with the result ?

Any B4 with with none of the above problems will be dry as originally intended, so I would feel you have to be on the receiving end of one of these types of problems ?

As a short term measure I used a small little electric fan heater left in the car overnight, positioned where it won't scorch anything, with the windows open about an inch.

But one really needs to take out the carpet, unless you have a very good Vax, and even then the "felt" underneath the carpet could still need to be replaced ?

      Kind regards.

I've been wondering the same thing actually, I think cracking the window open helps a little but the damp air will leave the car anyway if the heater is blowing full blast, via the 2 big one-way vents under the rear bumper

i've been suffering with this of late. I just assumed wet feet if you get in and out a few times could be enough to put some humidity in there. maybe something more sinister lurking.

Heater is on all the windows are clear and you get out of the car to run into shops...come out and the back three windows are steamed up and sometimes the fronts are starting to turn too.

I have the heat blowing on the windscreen so that doesnt steam up because its roasting hot. I was dreading the windows freezing on the inside but they were ok by the morning.

As has been said before, the heater matrix is a prime suspect. None of them seem to be able to live more than 10 years or so and when they do go it's just a small leak to start with and there's enough room inside the heater to keep the leak contained and just evaporate out onto the glass without wetting the carpet. I didn't believe it myself thinking I'd got a leaky seal or something until it got so bad that it smelt of G12 and the game was up. Looking back my heater matrix has been leaking for around a year.

If you remove the matrix hoses and get it in the matrix and NOWHERE else then it's worth a go.
To be honest getting the dash out and renewing the matrix ain't that hard, there is really good guide on here.

                          cheers

Rather interestingly on my avant I had water leaking down near the drivers kick panel last year. Took me ages to locate the leak but it was on the joint of the wing to the main body. Degreased it all and loaded it up with rtv sealant and stopped the leak. Then proceeded to lift the carpets and drain out in excess of 5ltrs of water through various means out of the molded spunge. Once dry never had any demisting problems again until today. The snow left on my boots was sufficient to leave a small puddle of water on the original rubber audi mats causing the inside of my windscreen to freeze over by this afternoon. My neighbour that works nights must have loved my car idling for 5 minutes as it vibrates the whole house .

BUT you are ALL missing the point of the OP... I was asking a scientific question about dispersing some of the condensation.. windows open ??? or will having heater on full drive damp air out of the car some other way ...
Yeah i had the same problem on mine with wet foot well and it turned out to be the grommet. Usually try and drive round with heater on high and windows open an inch and sunroof open a little
