Hi, some advice needed please regarding elipsoid headlights, the silver/chrome backing in the headlight is flaking away, going yellowish behind. Can you get these recoated/rechromed, buy new? If not, can i buy a complete new Hella elipsoid unit off Ebay.DE (ebay germany), about 230.00 Euros. Are they the same as uk units ie not model specific for left hand drive? Will they fit/function ok.
Any comments would be much appreciated.

They come off quite easy and can be rechromed... German lights are for left hookers.
I had one of my ellipsoids re-silvererd last year after I stupidly rubbed the chrome off one of them
In terms of cost you have two choices, I tried Dual Metalizing (0121 7082748) who wanted to charge me around the £100 mark for the pair but it was the same cost if I only wanted 1 re-chromed !
or
VMC (01932 563434) who I eventually used as they charged me only £60 to chrome one !

For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2
I am 99% sure that the RS2 lights are universal LHD to RHD. If you look behind the lowbeam projector there is a little switch that changes the beam cut-off.
Yes and No, all the lever does is cut off the beam so they dont dazzle on coming traffic when driving in europe. Primary reason for this is the UK cars are RHD where as the rest of europe are LHD. So the function of the lever is to cut the beam when we are driving in LHD countrys. Proper LHD headlights have the same beam pattern as us flipped around, or a mirror image.
US spec headlights have a different beam pattern to the rest of the world and produce a flatter beam profile so using a RHD headlight with the beam cutouts enabled gives roughly the same beam profile as a US spec headlight, and is probably close enough to pass any vehicle testing you have.
