  • Knock Sensor Replacement

Any chance of a guru posting a knock sensor replacement "how-to"?

I've got both replacement sensors but only appear to be able to locate one...

    Cheers.

The two sensors are on the same side of the block ( under the inlet manifold) You may need to remove the main radiator to get a good look at them.

I've done both on my cq20v.
I just moved P/S pump to get to No.1
and the fuel pressure regulator to get to No.2

I havent ever changed mine, but i have looked at doing it :O

Doesnt look easy. The one closest to the bulkhead isnt too bad but the front one looks a right nightmare.

I haven't done either in my S2, but i'm sure if you move the P/S pump it's right there.
It's just the usual case of working out what to move to make the job easier.

Cool, good tip, hope it does apply to the S2. Would be a lot easier than removing the rad

Yeah. I definitly didn't move the rad.
I think i discovered this when i replaced the P/S pump mounting bracket. (The old one broke on the way into a sharp corner )
This was after i struggled around it to fit Knock Sensor 1!

Yeah the second one nearest the front of the car is a PITA, you need two elbows to get your arm down there normally or take the rad off its mountings and take dip stick out and you can just get to it then.

How much are they? Do VAG-parts sell them?
I keep getting a fault code for knock sensor with vag-com.
Doesn't seem to knock at all though - maybe the remaining one is working twice as hard ( ha ha )
