What sort of spec would you be looking at to get an AAN upto this spec? What sort of intercooler would you suggest on a uk spec s4 with air-con? similar to the Dahlback one they fitted to their black s6?
Cheers for the info, trying to plan exactly what ill need before i put mine off the road after the summer.
Thanks for your time

To get an AAN to about 370HP, you need a large front-mounted intercooler (Dahlback's was actually MTM's and now belongs to a friend of mine), RS2 or K26/27 hybrid turbo, RS2 exhaust manifold, large injectors, custom ECU mapping, 3" exhaust from the turbo back, with separate wastegate pipe, a sport cat or no cat at all, samco intake hoses so you don't go to the dealer's every 6 months, a well insulated cone induction kit and different spec cams...
With this setup, reasonable and reliable 370HP/550+Nm are feasible....

Not sure if S4 and S6 have the same amount of room behind bumper, but this is a couple of pictures of a front mounted IC on a S6.
Hi -
That IC looks good, but is'nt it possible to do something smaller?? I mean in front of my AAN there is both the cooler for the engine, and the climate?
I have just about done all of the above conversions (except the green injectors), but with the stock IC, because off the missing space...... I think a have about 330 BHP/NM 500...

Strange, I've already done an S4 with RS2 stuff and dynoed 352HP/570Nm at the crank... on the stock IC...

Hi guys
Where does the separate wastegate pipe terminate Is this essential I'm about to get my 3" downpipe made this week to fit the new parts on so if this is essential (and legal) I guess I would love some more info please

Karl,
depends on what you want, you can have it just pointing at the ground under the car by the gearbox (although you could I suppose melt something down there), or out of the side of the car as shown in the picture (this is how I originally had mine back in 2003), although its now just pointing at the ground.
Or I suppose you could have it travel all the way to the back and exit next to the main systems pipe (I have seen Dahlback do this on a RS2).
The supposed advantage is that when nailing the motor and the wastegate opens to divert some exhaust away from the turbine to control boost levels, the diverted exhaust gas does not have to rejoin the system as it does in the stock configuration, and there is no turbulence or added back pressure introduced at the point of entry in the downpipe.
Not sure how legal one of these would be in Oz, but if it is you might want to stick a small silencer on a seperate WG pipe, while its great for scaring the ***** out of old ladies and animals, it does draw attention to the car at a time when you don't want it, i.e. speeding :mischeif: .
Funny thing I have noticed is that of the three I have heard, mine, Dougs and Toms, they all sound slightly different.....maybe something to do with different exhaust manifolds?
Going back to advantages, I think that having say a 1.5" seperate WG pipe on say a 3" system basically gives you an extra 1.5" on your system when you need it when working the motor and creating max back pressure in the system. When the WG opens its almost like having a 4.5" system with all its benefit of getting rid of back pressure, but only when you need it. Thats just my idea though and while it makes sense to me it might be wrong .
By the way I forgot to add that you would be suprised how much gas flows through the WG when it opens, the WG pipes on both Tom and Dougs cars at the last RR session were glowing cherry red.
