The Bently manual is very good, it covers everything in depth and has helped me with a couple of tricky job's they sometimes pop up on eBay for around £50 though a Haynes is manual useful.

As above check the small breather pipes for cracks as well as the sender unit/seal, I've seen leaks caused by both.

It's unlikely but if you happen to need a tank I have one.

Thanks for info.I will definitely check it at the weekend. What do I have to do to lift up the tank?
DO I need to disconnect any pipes? From bottom of the car?
I did remove the carpet and the tank cover, disconnected the electric cable that I believe it's powering fuel pump.
That's where I've stopped as I don't want to break something by removing or unbolting without the knowledge.

There's a couple of conections under the car behind the fuel filter, if you want to remove the tank you'll need to undo these. However the area you need to pay most attention to is on the drivers side at the top, there's two breather outlets located there and it's these conections that most often cause leaks.

The conections can crack where they join the tank which is fixable with an Epoxy product, 'Quik Steel' is very good for this job.

Sometimes the ends of the rubber hose's perish and allow fuel to escape, this can normally be cured by cutting 2/3cm off the end of the hose's and reconecting them, if the hose's are badly perished then replace them completely.

Whereabouts in the boot are you finding fuel?

[/IMG]Thanks for all support, links and pdf files.
I did have a quick look at the tank today. I've managed to lift the pump and do some photos. I did pour about 3 litres of petrol int the tank last saturday. When i got it started it run for about 4 minutes and died after.
                thats where all petrol is:

Hmmm, was your car stood for a long time with an empty tank? That seam looks a bit rusty and if if it dided after a few min's running I'm wondering if the tank has rust inside it blocking the pump.

Have you had a look at what's floating around in the bottom of tank?

If it leaks with just a couple of gallons in it then it could have rusted through, though that's not that likely.

As I've said I have a good tank spare should you need one.

According to the last owner the car hve been off road since 1997,
I've made some photos after i got home from work

couple of pictures from inside of the tank

I'll pull the tank tomorrow and ispect for any large holes,
I noticed the fuel lines have quite big corrosion.

                      More info

If it been stood dry for 20 years then it's going to have rusted inside and that's certainly grotty looking, I'm pretty certain your fuel pump will have sucked up a load of crud and either blocked the strainer or jammed. You need to pull the tank out and have a good look at it, it most likely to be the seam that's leaking.

Holy ****. that's a long time. How many miles does it have on the clock? The exterior looks good and I imagine it's nice inside too if it was well looked after until 1997.
Bit nasty inside the fuel tank but I suppose the worst case scenario is that you need to change that, the pump and the fuel lines. But it's worth it for a panther black CQ20v

my god that looks pretty crusty in there!

I think you need to get that tank out pretty quick sharp.

you've already revealed the top of the tank so may be able to see some bolts that hold it down, you probably won't be able to see the row along the back edge as they are covered in carpet. The carpet goes down into the compartment behind the bumper and it is removed by pulling REALLY hard. It is stuck down with some very strong glue but it does peel off eventually and is re-usable when you put it all back.

As mentioned, there are connections under the car to undo and obviously the connection at filler neck and the small breathers near the neck.
