My old GT was a scream too - it ran out at 170bhp with a gas flowed head and balanced bottom end, Boge suspension and (at one stage - 225/50/ZR15's) it was an animal for a car that ran the local weigh bridge at 1060kg driver and fuel included.
Power's nothing with weight and the type 81's had no weight!
