            ride

Too many people want a free ride, so I thought i d charge for it and try to get some money back from the thing!
Brown pants so you dont show any stains when you crap your self ( what s the middle pedal for again?!!!)

yep, rad in the boot, was at tim s earlier in the year.
still a few jobs to sort but it does go rather well, tim said it was quicker than his 90 turbo even though its down on power.
may upgrade to rs spec next year if the bank manager lets me.
Feel free to drop round if u know where i live ( but only while i m in!)

            Rock on Tommy etc...

i hope you have sorted the body out it was in about hundred colours when i saw it .and some advice please on your cooling system. i like you am running with the same system but i'm having problem with my heater matrix not warming up . what i've discovered is that with the electric water pump that i'm using its actually pushing water through both the inlet and exit pipes of the matrix , so rather than flowingf through it pushes against each other so not leting me blead the system properly .spoke to tim today what he recomended was that i block the small pipe that runs along side of the engine and plumb it so the matrix exit pipe goes to the return pipe which goes to the back of the car . what the water pump is doing is preassurizing the whole of the engine and is also pushing the water up the small pipe which runs alongside the engine. that pipe is normally for exit of the matrix . do you understand what i'm trying to say ? did you have the same problem?

                Couple of things here -

                1. I'm pretty sure the afterrun coolant pump is designed to pump water around in the opposite direction of what the water pump does. Can't for the life of me remember why - but of course the afterrun pump isn't going to be operating when the engine is running. Are you certain you have the water plumbing right - How have you connected the water matrix to the rear of the engine ?

                2. Whats so special about that modified white UR - apart from a rear radiator and an ABY lump in the front ? It looks kinda rough in that photo - is it properly quick ? Guess with an alleged 300bhp and several hundred kilos less mass than an S2 it isn't going to be slow.

Yep it does, although like you, I can't remember why either.

paul its sorted now what i did was to block off the pipe that runs along side the engine and made the matrix exit pipe to go to the return pipe of the rad because the mechanical water pump is redundant the electric pump presurizes the whole engine so when the water gets to the matrix instead of getting there from one side it was going from both ends hence the air lock because it wasn't circulating .

Thanks for the advice on the water system guys.
Heater works fine what ever, warm or cold car.
I ll block the heater off altogether, I don t get to use the car often enough to have a heater anyway.

Replies to various comments given :-
It's top speed is pathetic with the coupe quattro gearing, it s not a ur and I ve never told anyone it is.
If you are unsure about it's performance, ask Tim and Phil, they ve both driven it, and that was with standard brakes, suspension etc on Tim's private test track ( main road outside the garage).
It is a lot lighter than a ur, let alone an s2.
It was bought about 5 years ago as a run around while I went through a divorce ( lost my jag and bmw..........so I drive cheapo stuff now)
after all that was sorted I felt sorry for the thing and bodged together all the non rusty parts to make a solid car.
No, it doesn't look pretty, but I'm not into polishing turds. Paint job cost me £150, because paint doesn't make it go any faster, so I didn t waste my money.
I wanted something different and realitively quick without being a sheep and having an EVo ( ok , i had a wrx, but that was too flimsy).
                          So thats that.
I ll go and kick the Volvo now and let off some steam.

From memory, my type 85 Coupe quattro with RS2 spec engine weighed 1,347 kgs. That was with 1 gallon (5 litres) of fuel, with a 5 speed box. With a 6 speed, it weighed 1,353 kgs.

The Ur quattro shell weighs little more than the type 85 Coupe q. The extra weight comes from brakes, beefier front struts, bigger front ARB, hydraulic servo and bomb.

                            Type 85 Coupe q - 1,200 kgs - 21.3 mph / 1000 RPM
                            Ur quattro WR - 1,300 kgs - 22.3 mph / 1000 RPM
                            Ur quattro MB - 1,335 kgs - 22.3 mph / 1000 RPM
                            Ur quattro RR - 1,380 kgs - 22.3 mph / 1000 RPM
                            Coupe S2 3B - 1,420 kgs - 24.7 mph / 1000 RPM
                            Coupe S2 ABY - 1,525 kgs 24.7 mph / 1000 RPM

You shouldn't lose a lot of top end compared to an Ur quattro 20V. Sure, the gearing is slightly higher, but the Ur q is more of a fridge than the type 85 Coupe q, they should be on a par. The Coupe q however should accellerate quicker than the Ur due to the lower gearing.

On the other hand, the Coupe q with an ABY is very unlikely to lose traction in 5th, if the throttle is floored from 70 mph. Mine certainly didn't, with a dyno'd 426 PS / 411 ft/lbs I can only assume the clutch is not up to the job.

What clutch are you running? Flywheel? It is possible to have a miss match of components causing slippage.

clutch is uprated ur one allegedly good for 300 bhp, thats y its in there.
car is tucked away for winter now so i ll let everyone know in the spring ( when the salt has gone from the roads) what actual bhp it is as a 4 wheel dyno has been set up locally.
should be out on some track days then too.
