  • New rims....

Picked up some ACT/Ronal 3 piece magnesium split rims in return for doing a nasty headgasket job on a mates Golf
    8x17, ET36/ 5/112 57.1 center bore - top job!

Offered them upto the Avant for an idea to what they'll look like fitted...

Thinking about painting the centre's either anthracite or satin black, not sure yet...

    Thoughts.

    Pete.

The outers are already mirror polished .
Quite an easy rim to split as the basket (centre) is on the outside .

so are them wheels really magnesium as i was going to get some ages ago but was told what ever you do dont fit them to a road car as they bend and crack far to easy for road use and with the weight of the s2 do you think you will be trying extra hard to dodge pot holes ... although they do look very very nice

Well ive not heard of any durability issues with magnesium wheels and i know a few people running Technomagnesio rims.
Dymag also still make magnesium alloy rims and they seem to have a reputation for being very strong!.
Many wheel refurbishers will not touch them as they need specialist equipment to repair and the dust is not very good for you but seeing as the outers are alloy if i get any problems its only a simple polish.
            Also they are very light

            Pete.

Mag alloys generally aren't as resilient as ally alloys - sweet rims though.

Id agree with you if the wheels were single piece but the alloy outers will deform long before the magnesium centre gives way.
Now anyone got any 225/45/17 tyres

I have to buck the trend I am afraid. I don't really like them and think they may look a little cheap on the S2. I think you need OEM, or BBS or suchlike on an S2.

                    Cheers,

                    Steve.
