    Hi Guys,

My wife kept on telling me that her A4 1.8 was a little under powered so I have just bought her an RS2. That is the good bit....

....the bad bit is that the AC is ******ed, the heater fan only works on position 4 and I have no spare wheel!

    Anyone help?

    Cheers

Bring it down to the Garage meet tomorrow and people may be able to help.

How do you know th ac is not working, if the air temperature is low it won't turn on. It may just need recharging or may need new seals and a re-charge.

Is the A/c climate or the 3 dial control head? If it is the 3 dial unit go to a scrap yard and get a similar unit from an 80 or similar that may help. The knobs pull off with a pair of pliers and then you removevthe screws hidden behind.

The spare would be a Porsce item I feel so a Porsche breaker would be of more use than Audi. Any comments anyone?

It is not the fan control unit as I have already had that off and tested it so it must be in blower somewhere....

I can't remember if there are multiple wires going to the blower. there may be a slow speed resister on the blower which may have. I feel it is the same as the non AC units from Audi 80/90.

Wow, buy the wife an RS2? Didn't hear that one much

But if she's in an RS2, what are you going to drive? Not the 1.8 I hope

          Oh, welcome by the way

That's two of us then. Well almost. The money for the RS2 came out of our joint account - which had been enhanced by some money he'd been left. But the RS2s officially mine!

He's allowed to drive her if he behaves. He took her to the garage for 4WA on Thursday and one of the salemen was admiring her. Apparently the salesman's jaw dropped when him indoors said it was the wife's car.

                Hi Markrs2

Welcome to the world of RS2 ownership. Glad to know that there's at least one other female RS2 owner out there. Get her to sign up for the forum too.

It's amazing what people do for tax reasons isn't it?

Mark, I looked at the heater motor on AvantS2's car on Saturday which had dealer retrofit A/C the heater had 2 wires going to it. It seemed to be a different system to mine. You can gain easy access to the motor by pulling down the glove compartment.

The use of 2 wires points back to the controller and not the motor.

There is a series resistor unit near the blower motor. That's what needs replacing if only full speed works. In this case the system passes the resistor and gives full voltage to the blower.

                      That sounds logical Porkkis,

The blower I looked at was made by Valeo and was different to my 1990 coupe. There are 4 speeds on my unit the resistor has 3 tappings (connections which have different levels of resistance).

The resistor on mine is abour 4 inches/100mm long and is abour 3/42 or 20mm in diameter. it is usually a white ceramic tube with resistance wire wound round it.

Check the connections to and from that Mark, or buy the wife a multi meter!

I will change the resistor and see if this works. Thanks guys!

                            Interesting

Our RS2 is also daily driven by my wife. I've to contend with the company Saab
                            1994 Audi/Porsche RS2 AVANT.
