They love to sting you with storage costs, if you want it back.
Have you informed them of your charges for storage?
They get their finger out, sharpish, if you mention that.

If they insist on that price, tell them to find you one exactly the same in as good pre-accident condition as yours

Price was not from the insurance company but from Helphire. Insurance have confirmed that it's insured for £6k.

So let me get this right...

My s2 is probably on my insurance companies books as being worth about £5-6k. Ive spent ~£8k on upgrades and mods since i bought it, so AFAIK to get an s2 and have it in a similar condition with mods would cost ~£13k... so i really do not want to do any damage to the thing as my mods arn't covered by the insurance!

Now, i can deal with that, but if some chav was to go into the back of me and cause a load of damage worth more than the £4k my insurance company will have down onthe books, the chav's insurance company would not be expected to provide me with a car in the same condition that i started with, and would simply write the car off and offer me the book figure?!

            That cant be right?

Your insurance company would take into account the market value of the car but you'd have to prove what that was. The problem I had was that I was not dealing with my insurance company although I wasn't aware of this until this week! Who you insured with Andy? Suggest that you start looking for agrred value if you're not already on a policy like that.

Im with the root of all evil - Elephant.

I know i know, only people that would insure me with mods for under £2k being 20.

Im just a little worried that if some other clown drives into me their insurance company is not required to provide me with a car in a similar condition and value including mods at the end of it.

There is no way Elephant would value your car at £5k.

Which is exactley what i said - "cause a load of damage worth more than the £4k my insurance company will have down" - and thats probably if im lucky

if i bin the car fine, but what im asking is if someone else takes out my car is their insurance company not required to provide me with another car in the same condition, with the same mods, worth the same amount.

I mean, if someone drives into me surely i cant be expected to be out of pocket a the end of it?

Read this post and check the date. That was over two years ago.
Ask Elephant what they value your car at. There is a reason why they are cheap.

Elephant were my only option, no one else would touch me, id hardly call £1900/year cheap. It was that or dont get an s2.

Again, i wasnt asking about what my insurance company would value my car at, but what a third party company is required to do if someone else was to write off my s2.

In the case that Sonic is talking about - where a 3rd Party hits him and is deemed at full fault would the compensation figure not be coming from the 3rd party's insurance?

Yes but only to the value of the car. That's exactly the problem I faced with Helphire.

                                I have fallen foul of this myself twice;

Ist time S2 hit from rear in car park, I wasn't moving but as my S2 was in reverse it was my fault!!! had to go with it in the end after months of legal stuff but just plain bXXXXks!!!!!!!!!!! Car was writen off with the same sort of damage as yours Andy.some of the parts are very dear.... boot floor had a crease in it and at over £1500 for that one part... car was scraped!!!

2nd time corsa driver side swiped me (came across 2 lanes to make the impact.... muppet) his insures admited liability, went in for a week (damage to front wing and wheel) 3 months later delivered back as a non-runner (engine cooked) more damage sustained down the same side in their car bodyshop/care and the most crap paint job you can imagine... and the best..... that was in Nov 2006, by Oct 2007 they wouldn't communicate by phone, email, post recorded or otherwise....my last phone conversation in Oct they had the nerve to say I hadn't kept in contact... 80+ phone calls and 20 recorded letters plus emails etc. what more did they want plus the manager I was speaking to even said they thought it had sorted it self out?!!! what the fxxk and couldn't believe they were going to be charged storeage for the car lol!.... thats only a tiny bit of the detail of this bull crap

I even sent all the board of directors of RBS (the oweners of the insurrance company)recorded letters 8 in total and 3 had the title of Sir lol!

Its not over yet for me but the finacial ombudsman is on the case now and the case is in its final stages... the insures haven't even communicated with the ombudsman even after repeated requests for my file

I'm out of pocket to the tune of £6000 storage, £6000 for the car plus all the other costs involved... adds up to over £15000 now

Should be another few weeks before I hear more...

And for information thats Direct Line for you... not my insures mind but the third partys.

The best bit of advice I can give to you Andy or anyone else is... involve your own insures even if the third partys insurers admit full liabilty and want to do all 'repairs' for you

                                Jay
