Great news on the std service- longlife intervals can really fook up a perfectly good motor!!
If you have VAG-COM you can check loads of stuff on the tdi's- pump timing being the important one.
You can also check( and adjust) the operation of the EGR- important as they can clog the IM with loads of ****** crud in no time (BTDT, and it is an absolute bitch to clean- even for a man of your cleaning prowess/obsession/illness
)
Check out
Lots of very useful info/how to's etc....
This is what they say about the IM clogging-
There have been issues with intake manifolds clogging due to the combination of oily fumes (originating from the CCV or crankcase ventilation system) with soot from the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system. These problems can be virtually eliminated by ensuring that the EGR system is operating at the minimum allowable level. The adjustment procedure is in section 7.h of this FAQ. The only side effect of this alteration will be somewhat increased NOx emissions under certain operating conditions but the change will not affect the ability of the vehicle to pass emission tests (#1, the adjustment remains within factory specifications, #2, most emission test procedures for diesel vehicles do not measure NOx). DO NOT change any of the other adaptation values unless their effects are precisely known and considered. Specifically, changing the adaptation value for injection timing in group 4 to other than factory default may cause severe engine damage so DON'T TOUCH adaptation group 4! (Every 2 degrees of timing advance raises peak cylinder pressure approximately 15 bar (about 10%) and raises piston temperature by an unknown amount, so it's best to leave this alone.)
As for the K&N, they can cause problems with the MAF sensor (common tdi prob- makes it feel like there is no turbo when she starts to die- doesn't show up as a fault code etc................ normally die about 80k so you've got a bit to go yet- easy to check, just unplug it and go for a drive- if it drives better then it's foooked!!!!)
I personally have never had a prob with the K&Ns killing the MAF but mostly this is due to the filter being over oiled when cleaned
- keep it anyway because the MAF is going to die anyway- it's a consumable unfortunately!!)
might be worth giving the IM a clean with some wurth system cleaner (I use it on every service on tdis) very good results- you can tell from all the crap that comes out of the exhaust!!

nice car, great colour and i know it will be kept cleaner than clean due to your fixation (or is it that you love the smell of polish??)
