Carpet removal was a no go today as I spent half the day in bed.

Anyway, just got out in the dry and I think there's something in this weight redudction thing

      Just did 3 0-60 times at 4.91, 4.90 and 4.85

      And 2 quarters at 13.89 and 13.88.

Sweet. The car feels and sounds better, there's about a 10mm rise in the rear suspension but the car dynamically feels pretty good, hopefully keep it like this for VAG day at Combe if I make it that is. All good stuff

So after all the work, the tinkering and now stripping 100Kg out of it I've managed to just about manage factory RS2 figures

So that 100kg is worth some time alright... No arguing with the fundamental laws of motion then !

Harder to realise weight reduction at the front if you already have the aircon out. Has already been suggested about the mahoosive front water bottle. Going a bit more extreme you could shed some weight (and generate even more cabin noise) by removing the sound pads (a thick hefty felt under the carpet).

ABS is heavy but thats getting in for full-time trackday car if you remove that. There's that metal cover for the fuel tank which could save another kg or so... One step further is getting a motorsport stylee fuel 'bag tank' - nice and small and would fit in the spare wheel well if you had one...

I bet the roof lining is a few kg - and its all up high... Plus the electrics for the sunroof and windees must be another couple kg. Sounds like you've made that big benefit without destroying the car - more extreme weight reduction is always gonna be harder to reverse out of.

Procon Ten allegedly weighs a fair bit - again not sure you want a potential lifesaving system to be removed !

Adding a cage will stiffen things up greatly but also add ~20-30kg I reckon.

Evening Paul, you've been a bit late on the uptake with this one ...

Yeah, enjoying it at the mo but not going to completely destroy what is a nice ABY, removal of everything in the cabin and then the ABS and ting is quite a leap forward from taking the seats out for the odd track day . The figures show that there is little weight ot be lost from removing the little things compared to just clearing the boot, rear seats and parcel shelf out.

Removing the Procon Ten would indeed save a fair bit of weight, I think 4WheelDrifter removed it and Chen has commented that it weighs a LOT.

I was genuinely suprised with the sub 5s to 60, not bad for a mere k24 car and shows that my car seems to love that wee chip of yours there Paul but then we knew that already. I'm determined to stick with the OE turbo for no other reason than it's in there and doesn't cost anything In the meantime everything else gets built or chosen to handle a GT3071...

Got to pull the carpet and knackered sound deadening out and put some of the interior back in so that I can park it outside the flat without getting worried. Has been a fun exercise and has highlighted that I need a louder exhaust and lighter seats I think I'll continue to amass bits that I bolt for track days and make the more Audi bits a bit easier to remove too, things like the rear split seats were a right pain to get out.

Will get my pics uploaded tomorrow with basically a Recaro Speed, steering wheel and dash and nowt else. It looks pretty damned good and goes very well, sounds great but has a slight rake to the stance

Removing the interior is well worth the effort if anyone is bored on a weekend and fancies a laugh... or is that just me and my OCD

You could try rear springs from a 'lesser' B3 quattro to see if that settles the ride height cheaply. Can't remember if you fitted exotic / aftermarket springs already.

Been slow on this one alright - been away in France a few days. Had to drive a pheckin Renault Megane for a day - what a piece of shyte that was. Twitchy, slow, ugly and uncomfortable.

Yeah, I think that he's recognised the good and bad points and then presented the facts in an unbiased and objective manner

It's all going back together this morning as I need the car to be in stealth mode for being parked outside the hoose. I'll get a pic with the new wheels on, they look as good as I hoped shame they're heavy

All the interior is back in for now. I need to recharge myself and then get the carpet out. There's a bit of sound deadening on the boot carpets that I've removed and I'm sure there's a fair bit more stuff that the more hardy of us can do without on a daily basis. The other option is to stick Dynamat Extreme everywhere and go for a 3071 to drag it all around

Here's the shot from the boot with just the Speed in there. It was sweeeeeeeeeeeeet as.

And the rideheight, didn't measure it but at a guess increased were 10mm rear, 5mm front:-

Drove it back to Bristol todaywith the interior back in and wow these things are refined! With no interior it was like my Polo is with an interior... I also had about 100kg+ of wheels, a seat and tools in the car and it felt sooooooooo slow, that was 200+kg over what it was stripped out.

Does anyone know if Milltek do a replacement pipe for the centre box? I NEED more noise

Hehe, the effect of excess weight is much more tangible when you add it rather than remove it.
Now, do you still want to haul around those extra 25lbs of lead from that big battery:mischeif:

I'd love to strip 150kg out of her and fit a couple of kevlar seats and an alumiun cage but money dictates that pikey tuning is the order of the day and as the battery works it'll stay for now, when it dies I'll have a look at your motorcyle battery as I agree it's a free 10kg. Any links to them?

Just a standard Biltema (Halfords of Scandinavia) motorcycle battery. Note that you need to drive at least semi frequently with such a small battery. The Golf started right up after sitting for a week today, but the RS2 had drained too much after sitting for 2 weeks, so I had to use the booster pack on that one.

Get that boot floor/fuel tank cover out Andy. That's more sound deadening and ~3.8kg that can be lost.

Woo Yey more weight loss and more noise!

MIlltek will be getting a call on Monday about a replacement centre section. Dialynx list a single box system on their website so fingers crossed.
