Sorry to see that. My friend had a coupe crashed like that about six mo0nths ago and the insurance repaired it they said it was close to a writeoff but it was only a 2.0l 8v so yours should be repaired i would have said.

Been thinking all weekend, if she is a right off then its "Noggy" blue RS4 time! I have been talking about it long enough. Can anyone tell me about running costs? It has to be, its the natural progression to turn " Bi"!!!!!!

Well gents & ladies, today is "judgement day". The insurance assessor is coming to look at my car. i have decided not to let it go but to try & get it back & repair it. I just hope the shock hasnt travelled down the transmission! If they do right it off and i cant get it back there will be quite a few spares coming up for sale on here. My loan car landed last night, 58 plate 5door Golf GTI DSG with grey leather, 63 miles on the clock!

Aww Jees - not another one...

Its one thing to crash it yourself, but getting rear ended is the absolute pits. The insurance folk will no doubt try to screw you over - get all the legal advise you can and stroke every legal button available to have the car repaired - even using 2nd hand parts for example... perfectly serviceable for a tenth of new price (or less). Good luck. You don't need an RS4 - they are dull as phuck.

Thanks for the positive comments lads, find out tomorrow now! Got to my mates bodyshop at 9am and waited til 1230, nothing! Left a note on the door with a contact number and went for lunch, got back to find he had been and wrote on the note "Re inspection L *** MUJ please re arrange. Thanks Thomas." Totally PRICELESS!!! I was late for work though i had ok'd that with my boss. So bodyman rang and managed to get his number but he was 6miles away and wouldnt come back. So i can see i'm in for a fun start to tomorrow! I will be begging/pleading not right it off, maybe even trying to do a deal?

                            Raoul,

Even if the insurance co. write it off, (i.e. It is uneconomical to repair) It is still YOUR car. You should be claiming against the driver that hit you. You can still keep the car (it is still yours after all) and if you have to, agreeing to buy the car back at salvage costs and have the insurance payout for the value of the car minus the salvage value. You then repair the car yourself with 2nd hand parts etc that should work out a lot cheaper than the new parts the ins company would be quoting against...

The difficult bit will be agreeing the CORRECT value of your car. You will need to fight, fight, fight, as the first couple of figures they give you WILL be a joke!

However, I think in the first instance, you should still be fighting to have it repaired by the third party's insurance company, as it was not YOUR fault you were hit and you want YOUR car back the way it was before the accident.

                            Best of luck.

                            Cheers,

                            Steve.

Cheers Steve i have had confirmation off the assessor this morning it is a right off. But as you have rightly said i am keeping the coupe. I made it very clear to him that i want it back. I was told today to ask for "payment in lieu of repair". The assessor rang me this evening at work and i explained that i have cherished this car for 10 years and it has wanted for nothing (the gents at VAGPARTS will testify to that). He asked me what "I thought in an unbiased way" what i would get for it as he has looked into it on the net (PistonHeads I presume?) and he said "the values are all over the place for these cars arent they". So he said "leave it with me, i will do some more digging". The rear panel is on order (£186+vat less 15%) expected monday. The rear has now been "jigged" and is straight. Many thanks for your endless support. I shall keep you all posted and post up pictures of the progress.

Brilliant! You have made the right decision, and it sounds like the assessor is on your side as much as he can.

I would be looking for a value of £6k - £7k if it was a minter.
