Please watch this space gentlemen, i still dont know what i'm going to paid out. But i promise you this, 10 years & still going STRONG, i wont let "her" go as long as i've a breath in my body! I feel its time to start saving for an engine "overhaul", i think 400 is a nice round figure. i'm sure you gents will approve? Might need a bit of advice though. I will post some picks of the repairs soon, only off my phone i'm afraid. So want her back! 200bhp and fwd doesnt work even in the dry! Lads at work asked me if i was going to swap, simply NOPE. Plant the S2 and it sits on her bum, none of that wheelspin nonsense, well not yet anyway.

Well the insurance assessor rang me today and offered me £3000 but said it would cost me 20% to buy it back, i.e £600! So i promptly rang my mate the bodyshop chap to ask what should i do? He said refuse. He said you want £3000 & your car. So the offer is being sent in the post. These are some pics of before & during! Still waiting for the rear panel from Audi.

As we have advised others recently, always turn down their first offer. It is always offensive and normally will be in breach of the industry regulations on how write-off's should be settled.

The Association of British Insurers says car insurance companies must offer you a realistic payout for the value of your car. This means you must be offered an amount that will allow you to buy a similar car in a similar condition in your local area. All the insurer should deduct is the excess you agreed to when taking the policy.

Your insurance company will offer you the least they can get away with and normally use lower models as a guideline. Certainly a mint ABY S2 will be worth up to double their offer so hold your ground.

Send them examples of cars for sale at higher prices and ask them to justify why they have valued the car at a lower value. They must provide a reason for the valuation - which of course they cannot as they are trying to save money. Don't even get me started on the scum of the earth that are independent insurance assessors

Their second offer will be a little higher but not enough. Stand your ground and remember that normal wear and tear for that age car is NOT a reason for lowering the valuation. All the example cars for sale that you send them will have similar wear and tear. Point this out and insist on the details of their vaulation.

The insurance company rely on the fact that this is your only means of transport and so you need a fast payout. Tell them that you have a company car and are happy to wait for them to research the true value of this model in this condition. DO NOT accept their offer of you paying for a new assessment as the rules on how his new valuation are treated will only benefit them, not you.

This is where it gets sticky. Most companies will make the second offer (which will still be offensive) but most will now stall and hope that you give in so will not make a third offer.

Your final port of call is therefore the Financial Ombudsman. This free complaints service will investigate and try to negotiate a suitable payment for you. Let your company know you WILL use this service if they do not make a satisfactory offer.

                  HTH

                  Cheers n

Many thanks SI, thats just what i wanted to hear. I shall hold out for a much better offer. I think he is using the "mileage" card, but obviously he doesnt realise that these cars are capable of HUGE mileage. Mine has done around 219750 miles, i think thats why he is trying to bump the value down. Many thanks again gents for your support.

Hello good people. Just thought i would try to keep you informed of this complete farce! I received a cheque for the settlement of my claim first! Then after a calm telephone conversation asking should i not have received an engineers report, was told i would receive said report, which landed 2 days later with someone elses claim details!!! If they wish to settle the difference to make my payment £13160 then please go ahead. I today have received a photocopy of a letter they should have sent me on the 23/10/2008. I'm now covered for 30days third party only!! They have requested me to continue monthly payments to speed up my claim even though i ALWAYS pay my policy in full. I did not think levels of incompetence on this scale would still exsist. To say i'm totally underwhelmed is an understatement. If i conducted myself like this at my workplace i would be sacked!! So Monday is a carefully worded letter of complaint day. Then its Ombudsman time. I'm sure Watchdog would take this on! Anyhow car is straight now with primed new front wings, awaiting full respray. Keep smiling & please like the new "Lynx" advert keep an eye on your rear view mirror. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Jesus Chris!! It never fails to amaze me just how useless insurance company's can be, hang in there and don't back down until the claim is settled to your satisfaction. It sounds like your going about it sensibly which is all you can do, hope you get it sorted ASAP.

Things like this are the main reason I have my insurance with the NFU, I may be paying a little more but I can go into my local office and deal with stuff like this face to face with someone who has more than basic English and actually understands British law.
