    Snow Pictures

Well seeing as half of us are under a foot of snow i figure there must be some good pictures.

I'm very much snowed in but took the S2 out for a quick spin last night, getting back up the driveway was interesting and when i took the clio out it ended up requiring a tow rope and Karak's scooby to get me up.

I tried to get to work this morning and the clio and didnt even make it off the driveway - which gave me more appreciation for how easily to s2 coped with it when i took it out.

If i knew we were going to get this kind of weather more than once every 5 years i'd be investing in a spare set of wheels with studded tyres

Hey Sonic & other guys in the UK...question???

How unusual is it too get that much snow in your area? Is this a quirky Winter for you guys or is this a regular weather pattern? I live in the Midwest part of the USA and what you get is the same ole, same ole for our winters. I was always under the impression that you guys got allot of rain but very little snow in your Winters.
I knew southern Germany got snow as well as Poland but France hardly got any as well as Italy. Have weather patterns changed in the last decade?

Erm... so if the RS2 is outside chittering in the cold, what's in the garage?

This was yesterday in the Woods in Pulborough, West Sussex.

There has been quite a thaw since then... The S2 and the RallyRep and, dare I say it, the Land Rover have been brilliant, our road looked like this....

Which is, quite a steep hill, but the three of them kept motoring up and down with impunity whilst the everyone else parked at the bottom and walked up...

The RallyRep was, with thin tyres and manual diffs, pretty much unbeatable, but the S2 was great with the diffs locked... The only problem, and this is my perennial rage with Torsen, is the 18mph unlock... It's sooooo ****** annoying it hurts... Because on descent, whilst ABS on might be nice, locked diffs and dropping through the box is better...

                  Take the blue pill!

If you snip the blue wire at the diff controller under the rear seat or remove the pin or install a switch you can just lock and unlock the rear diff at whatever speed you want. Its fun for encouraging high speed sideways action as well!

This is easy to get off, just have to cut one wire. Or even better put a swich between the cutted wire.

Edit. damn little too late reply.

I feel a bit of fine tuning might be required.....

Just have it on a switch hidden somewhere so it looks stock.

Gawd Pete, I've had the car 8 years, We've had manually locking quattro cars, (Ur's CQ etc) for over 19 years and the diffs have driven me mad with they're magic 'unlocking'... It's so unsettling when the old girl drops off the locked diffs. Down hill, with the diffs locked and the clutch up, the only option for the car is to maintain rotation or stall the engine... So rotation wins the day. Sort the distance out to the stopping point and stomping down the box slows the wheel rotation down, equal to each corner, which is more than ABS alone can do...

Its very unusual to get this much snow before Christmas and for it to stay on the ground and last more than a few hours or a day. Because we're a small island and we sit in the gulf stream our seas are warm and take a long time to cool down in winter, so our coldest weather is usually in feb/march time. I can remember sbnow like this when I was a kid but whether it was December or January or Febuary I have no idea A white Christmas is very rare here!
