I shouldn't be worried as have done quite a few cambelts on cortinas, escorts orions, the wifes Astra we had for 10 years,BMW 2002 timing chains but for some reason untill i get the I5 inder my belt i have a healthy fear of it.
    Good to hear.

There is nothing different about I5 timing, and there is loads of information on here to help you along. Be prepared to sweat when tightening the crank bolt

Yes that bit freaks me out applying all that torque but i do have a 5 footlong scaffold tube to help with that Still bricking it a bit though!

        • Tool can be easily made, just need 8 cm diameter tube with thick walls and some welding, works like a dream. Mine was good for one time, as it was sitting in angle, next time I'll make one so I can bolt it to the block.

            • i took the old tub into this great old guy in ayr called dennis dunlop - he looks like santa claus after he fell down the chimney! think del boy's grandfather with oily hands and an impeccable accent! he really knows his audis and when i asked him about doing the timing belt for me he said he would only do it if i could get hold of the genuine audi crank locking tool and then went on to talk about 450nm torque etc etc and he lost me completely!!

he went on to say, "is you car as unreliable as janis' car??"

it was after that the tub sprung the power steering leak . . .
