  • My urS4 Avant

I've been on the lookout for an avant for a while. Ideally I'd have liked a urS6 with S6+ trim but I couldn't afford the ones on offer.

This car has been for sale here for the vast majority of the last 3-4 years. Imported from the UK in 2008 it was originally silver.

Last year it underwent a full respray except for the engine bay. The paint job is pretty good.

My preference has always been for a non sunroof, manual, chipped avant and here she is in an almost roadworthy state.

I'll be changing the wheels to 16" steels with winter tyres pretty soon. I need to put a few handbrake cables into it. It has a misfire which I want to get to the bottom of and I need to take my 1st up close and personal look at the UFO setup.

I need to find a way to get a urS6 adjustable steering column into it, it should be reasonably straight forward. I have explored this before.

I will also need to source several items that I recently sold off the urS4 that I broke for parts

    Here she is...

          Looks nice, very clean

I'm sure the misfire is nothing serious, depends on how it's acting.

Can I have the HP2's back?? Only joking I'll have to see how bad the UFO's are. Maybe I'll get a few months out of them. I may take you up on those pads, don't bin them just yet.

I think you are correct, I will investigate tomorrow evening.

You were watching it too I guess.

Looking for some spark plug opinions on this thread if anybody has any opinions.

So today I set about fixing a boost hesitation.

                        Out with the old:

                        In with the (almost) new:

                        No more boost hesitation

So now I'm looking for a bad mis-fire.

                        5 New ones, Thanks Fatty

That definitely fixed some of the mis-firing. Not completely there yet but way nicer now.

                        How she looks now

I decided to pull the cam cover to check out the seals. Both seem ok but I changed this plastic thing as it was broken.

Checked the torque on the cam caps and the head bolts while I was there.

And changed the offending spark plug too.

Looks like I might have an unwanted fuel restriction:

I have one of those spare but don't have a replacement filter so I don't think I'll bother today.

                          Bad location for an alarm

What's better than 1 alarm bodged into a car?? 2 alarms bodged into a car.

I will also be restoring the extremely functional and apparently unfashionable rear wiper.

Some of that makes you wonder what kind of muppet owned it before, my c4 was in similar condition when I first got it, lots of little bits meddled with and broken, and some really obvious fixes overlooked, it took me six months sourcing bits just to put it back the way it should be.

The price I paid kinda reflects the condition of these little things. Wait until you see the job that has been done to the door cards installing speakers. I was delighted to see that the ecu is a virgin at least that means I'm safe to drive it for a while until I hatch a plan.

The NCT fail list is pretty impressive
