    Audi RS2 mini project

After some searching online I finally found my dream car. As it showed up on our used car market here in Norway I contacted the guy only 10 minutes after it was up for sale and set a meeting the day after. By the advert he made it looked like there was a lot to do so I didn't have big expectations.

    Short about the car:
-Imported vehicle (-94 model taken to Norway in 2000)
-All services are completed in the service book.
-Black exterior, leather chairs, carbon interior decoration and original sport wheel.
-Almost in stock condition expect, open air filter, some silicon hoses and lower KW springs

    Errors on the car:
(fixed)-Oil leak on the rear diff.
(fixed)-Oil leak on the engine (in front)
(fixed)-Limping when the engine get's turbo pressure at WOT.
-Very small bubbles under the rear window viper indicates a starting rust point there.
    -Bad hand break

A short summary of what I've done since I got it a week ago.
-Cleaned the MAF sensor since it's been running with a open air filter/power filter (new stock filter ordered..)
-Pressure tested the intake system. As the picture below is showing it was done with some home made tools. It was prolly not the best equipment but I think I got it sorted out. I found one leak at the blow off/resirk valve and got it sorted out A little video of the leak can be found on youtube

-Locating oil leak on engine (leak from servo pump and valve cover)

This is a picture of the allen key on the tandem/servo pump that was leaking. It almost looks like it's for adjusting something and that there should be a o-ring on the bolt there. It was not tightened that's why I suspect it was for adjusting something. The pump was new for about 10months ago so I contacted the company that sold it and they have the pump now for evaluating if I get a new one on warranty.

-Trying to figure out a timing problem. Own thread can be found about that here.

During this process I found a bolt on the crank that was tightened VERY hard so I had to create a speacial tool for getting it off. Only had some scrap metal lying around so it isn't the most beautiful tool out there but it was up for the task

Fair play. I love homemade tools. Looking forward to some pics and hope you get it flying soon.

Today I paid a visit to my local Audi dealer.. Those always become so expensive Ordered new pulleys and belt for my register so now the AAN/ABY pulley that was on the camshaft is going to get replaced with a correct one for ADU. Stopped by the post office to pick up a new OEM air filter also and I just had to take a picture of the transportation I have to use now that my RS2 is in bits and pieces and my GF is using the Allroad for work. Must have looked really stupid driving around with that big box on the back

Took a short readout from the measure blocks on the ECU today and got puzzled by some of the values. Could this be the chip that is "tricking" the ECU that gives me wrong readout of the pressure sensor?

If you look at the screenshot that is taken without the engine running it shows that absolute pressure is 567 mbar and if I'm not wrong this is the pressure that should be registered at 2500 meters above sealevel. The only problem is that the car is at roughly 260 meters above sealevel and that should be 980 mbar give or take a few mbars.

Another thing is that the temperature is -49 degrees (outside it's about 20). Anyone know what sensor that is? Is it only giving a correct value with the engine running?

Using my crystal ball I am seing a tow bar! There is a relay that is fitted to vehicles with a tow bar.
Strangely the altitude sensor output is fixed at 0.3V which equates to approximately 600mbar. This reduces power (boost level) so that the output is down to ABY levels!
This should only applied if something is plugged into the tow bar wiring though. Otherwise as you say it should be reading the value equivelent to atmospheric pressure. If it reads 968mbar its dead.
To be clear this value is for altitude not engine pressure. It might be reading less than stated due to the low battery voltage I guess.

Temperature is the value from sensor on back of cylinder head. This value normaly shows up when the sensor is disconected, broken wire or if the sensor is bad where computer sees open loop in this circuit. However I am not sure if the value is also same when you measure without engine running. Before i would start to diagonse this issue, wait untill you can get motor running and recheck. I will also conect my VCDS to my audi after i get home and see if I get same value without running engine and let you know. Or maybe someone knows it already and beats me to it

Ah I remember reading about this. The car doesn't have a tow bar but it could be that it's "tow bar ready" and have this relay installed. Oh so this isn't the MAP sensor readout? That means I can check this with the car running and it should still show me the atmospheric pressure? It's just a thought but it could be that I have this relay and that it trip only with the engine running so that I have a low readout when it just have the ignition on. I was just thinking that this was the MAP sensor and that I had a wrong readout .

If this is the value that shows up with a broken sensor it's odd that the computer don't register a fault code on it. Yeah will wait until can have it running before I do more research on it. Do you know by any chance if it's a regular PT100 temperature element?

I am not sure if this is this type of sensor that you mentioned. That is a good point about not having codes, but maybe at this time ECU really beleives that temp is -49 but like i said i can check on my RS2 and let you know.

Grab the ABY and RS2 one as that may help in the future.

Minim: Strongly suggest that you click on the link below and bookmark it. Then click on a few of the labels, e.g. G62 Coolant temp sensor, G71 MAP sensor, F96 Altitude Sensor, etc. to help you get up to speed on the devices that the ECU uses to control your newly acquired RS2 ADU.

Awesome. Then everything is like it should I guess.

Ah thanks, was looking for a workshop manual earlier but had troubles finding it and there it was for free!

Very nice, I will read me up on this tonight. If you got any other good bookmarks for this engine/car just shoot. Lots of things for me to get into again as my 10 previous cars have been diesel Mercedes geländewagens and this RS2 isn't even close to similar to that

Actually grap that AAN one as well. There is no one dedicated publication so all the info needs to be pieced together. The AAN covers the mechanical bits but there are some differences. The ABY Motronic gives you an idea of how it works and the RS2 one sort of covers some of the differences which you have already been aware of.
Dave has archived a lot of infomation. Most of the sensor are common across the S cars.
The rest is a mater of trying to find out from other people!
