Was out for a spin on Thursday, decided to go for a blast over the mountain as there is no speed limit. Engine decides to throw a rod through the block at 120mph, sounded like someone had thrown a big bag of nuts and bolts under the car. The hole is big enough to get your hand in.

Running stock 3B motor, chipped running 1.5 bar. I did notice tiny little bit of surging on full boost between 1.4 - 1.5 bar. Gonna take the head off next week.

this is a classic high speed nokkin, you se the hot spot (in the senter of cranc) and you will se the same on the bearings( the upper shell spec..)

I do see this as a good opportunity to have the engine bay painted while the engine is out as I always wish I had after fitting this 3b.
Having run chipped 3b power for a couple of months I'am hungry for more power, chipped rs2 set up would be nice. This might now be a good time to go for these power levels, or at least pave the way for future upgrades.
Just had my 016 transmission rebuilt too and I like the gear ratios. I'm not sure if he 016 box will mate to ABY or AANmotor. This might determin which engine I go for.
Not really that pissed about the rod making an appearance, was just about to wrap it up for the winter.
Ideally I would be interested in a newly refreshed motor, will kepp my eyes peeled in the for sale section over the next few weeks.

UrS4boy@ yea... you se the hot acess mark in the cranc polished lane...low/ little fuel, high presure from the turbo, or bad coil/ ignition/low volt = high speed nockin = the rod/ bearing take a bad hit= out the block... bye bye $$$....

Yes an ABY/ADU will bolt up just the same to the 016...

Just buy a new block and build it up using components from yours, it will be cheaper in the long run.

Also as we discussed the other day swapping from 3B to ABY/ADU loom in your car is now a direct plug and play swap and should take no longer than 20-30 mins to do.

I would seriously invest in VEMS too so that you can map it safely and not rely on generic chips.
Especially if you are going to up the size of the turbo too.

BTDT I feel for you. Rebuild the next block using uprated rods and go the rs2 route, you wont regret it.
You say it was chipped to 1.5, who's chips where they.
