The clutch is ok on mine, cant say I have noticed anything, slightly heavier than the Passat?

My experience with heavy clutches is the cover seizes and plate need changing, splines and whatever pivot is used for the bearing, cleaned and lightly lubed with copperslip.

Anyone changed their clutch since this thread was current, and any new opinions ?

New clutch fluid is a very good idea. i.e. while the brakes might be bleed comparatively regularily, the line that contains the clutch fluid is rarely flushed when the brakes are flushed. It is cheap if a bit of a hassle, but well worth flushing out the old, black, past it's 'sell by date' fluid.

Remember the dealer's service schedule suggests that brake fluid should be flushed every two or three years. Can you remember when your clutch fluid was last flushed through ?, try it, it will be a nicer pedal, and more progressive. Will do your brakes no harm either.

Oh yeah, worth investing in a one man pressurised brake bleeding kit, makes it a doddle.

I agree with Macspring. Fluid should be changed at regular intervals. I believe it is a service item, not sure at what mileage. Audi did this at one service and told me the fluid can take on moisture.
As for the s6 clutch. I have a manual Avant Which, yes has a heavy clutch. It has always had a heavy clutch which eventually brock the peddle box. It has done 220.000
miles on the original clutch, so it is safe to say its time is drawing near for replacement.
I also have a 3b s2 with rs2 setup, and an uprated clutch that Alred supplied me with.
            It is not heavy.
I wonder if it is something to do with angle or length of the s6 peddles, that coupled with high mileage causes this issue on the s6. There are plenty of rs2/s2 on star ship mileage without this issue, but I have heard of a few s6 peddle box failures. Jp and myself included.
It would be interesting to hear from anyone with an A6 for a comparison.

              s6

I can concurr with the fluid change , and after changing the clutch master , it was better, then recently it got more difficult, so i changed the slave and it is [not light] , but much easier .I then had to adjust the push rod to accomidate the new slave but it is now better then ever.

I own a 2.8 30V C4 and an S6 C4 and can confirm the 2.8 30V C4 is nice and light/normal in the clutch department compared to the overly heavy S6 clutch. It seams that all S6 C4 cars are this way and something that was flagged up by Journalists from motoring magazines back when these were new.
I have also heard from a different source to yourself of the S6 peddle box failures. Acording to the same source the peddle boxes ie 2.8 and 2.2 turbo are the same and this might be true of the range.

Clutch on my old S4 was heavy, on my new S4 clutch pedal is really light in comparison.

One of my UrS6 now has 47k miles on it and the clutch is have. So I am presuming it is old age that is making it heavy. I haven't got around to flushing the fund int he brakes and the clutch just yet.

But as a UrS4/6 car was aimed at the US market you would think that Audi would not design it to have a heavy clutch from day one.

Will be interested to hear from someone who is forced through the necessity of failure/breakages to replace their clutch with a standard one, Luk or Sachs and the master and slave cylinder and flush their fluid, and see if the pedal gets lighter.

Admittedly, it was only a 2.0L 16v ACE engine a B4, but when we changed the clutch for a new standard one, we thought the new one was broken and we'd made a mess of fitting it as the pedal was so light it went to the floor so so easily compared to a second similar B4 we owned at the time.

Can't think that a new clutch and fluid will not give a lighter pedal, when compared to a 10 or 20 year old clutch and stale fluid.

                            I had:
                            A6 C4 ACE quattro for 50'000 km
                            2 x S6 C4 2.2 turbo for 20'000 + 20'000 km
                            S6 Plus for 20'000 km
                            2 x A6 C4 AEL (1 quattro, 1 not) since 2 months.
                            1 x 80 Competition for 20'000 km
                            1 x Urquattro RR for 35'000 km.

                            I can say this:
ACE engined cars: light clutch pedal.
                            AEL a little harder.
                            S6 turbo the hardest
S6 plus not hard as turbo is. I think it's like AEL.
Also Urquattro RR pedal is like AEL.

                            Tested RS4 B5, harder than S6 turbo.
S4 B5 like Urquattro or AEL, not so hard.

The most hard clutch pedal i tested in my life is Porsche 993: 1 hour in the traffic makes left knee hurt all the night.

The most soft was a A4 B6 1.9 tdi. Seem pedal does not exist.

I did change my old clutch set for this reason

while I was swaping engine I had to find a flywheel for V8 and got used one with complete clutch from 1994 !!
disc was in good condition so I wanted to cut some costs and reuse the set ... what a mistake
clutch was holding good those 300HP but it was so stiff my wife couldn't drive it normaly, it was a problem for me too ... city trafick jams made my foot hurt
so I spent some 450€ for new sachs set with oem specs
just to point out ... fluid was changed during swap of the engine together with master cylinder so fludi isn't THAT much of an issue

now it's totaly different story, same as diesel clutch I had before
but it's nowhere close to clutch feel of a rabbit mk6 or cars alike

first of all you can't expect pressure plate on a urs6 has same pressure on the disc as for b4 ... they are completely deifferent
secondly, newer cars are made for everyone and much lighter to handle in all aspects so we can't compere two
