I've got full history .... All issues sorted and maintained regardless also the body is perfect I'm the quality controller for a bodyshop and repair audis ferraris lamborghinis maseratis and only do these kinds of cars because im crazy lol. It's hard to say until you see the car in person to see what it's like and drives like. I've seen a few cars in my time I ask the right questions over the phone .... Turn up and then go home pretty annoyed with the sellerComment

Forget history it's meaningless, IMHO most "pros" are **** at their jobs.
As Andy says buy based on condition, and be prepared to get your hands dirty regardless. OEM prices for parts can be eye watering, or increasingly often they are not available any more so be prepared to dig deep. To me this looks like a nice project, its quite a rare colour on the avant and looks like it could do with some love. Price wise, its worth what you are prepared to pay really. They are going up in value for sure.
The forum is priceless though. Very much like internet porn - if you can think it someone has probably done it and taken pictures

Boost pipes for sure, most problems can be found with a pressure test, you just need some bungs and an airline. After that it's MAF connector pins and make sure sensors are good.
Try and pull codes with a Vagcom lead when you go to see the car. An ebay lead and the free 311-2 version will be fine.Comment

IMHO.
Looking at the engine photos, would indicate that the underneath has been affected by salt on the UK roads. While it would be just about OK for £4,500.00, anymore and you might be better off paying more for one that has had a lot of work done to it already by a fastidious member on here who is selling it unexpectedly.
Which ever S2 you buy you are ideally placed in being able to do the work on the car, and possible have access to bodywork at trade or mate's rates. You'll also want to be familiar with sandblasting and powder coating.
If you were to comment on why you are considering buying an S2, we would be able to pass comment based on experience on which one to go for, Coupe / Avant, or maybe consider a UrS6 saloon or Avant. What mods etc.? Keeper, or just scratching an itch, or ticking the various cars off your bucket list.
As as soon as you buy one, and read this forum, you'll start to think of making it better / uprating it.

whats the wire running off the stud from the AIT? Looks like Nissens main rad...could be an early candidate for another change as they aren't known for longevity. Header tank on the coolant looks like its got lots of scale on the outside...has it had the head off before?
Looks in ok shape though and if you can work on it yourself then looks like not a bad prospect tbh.sigpic

Thanks for the heads up on the clocks and not sure if the heads been off. I'll ask him now.
Reason I'm fancying one is I'm not into modern cars they just don't interest me. Had a mk1 golf gti, now I've got a mk2 golf gti 16v and just much prefer German cars. Like things a little different and love tinkering with them so thought the s2 ticks all the boxes. Like to take something to shows that you just don't see all the time aswell.
Thanks for all the useful info already guys. Seems like a great forum alreadyComment

Ok, here we go: It looks bloody rough to me based on those photos. The interior is tatty, the leather completely worn on the steering wheel. The engine bay has rust in it so God knows what the underside is like.
A £3k car in my opinion. Needs to be mechanically mint to save the cosmetic issues.Last edited by Fat Audi 80; 7 October 2015, 20:08.The Perfectionist

Thanks for your opinion fat Audi 80 I appreciate all input. I'm not going to bid on the auction and hopefully nobody else will. Then going to go down to see the car in person and hopefully make him a cheeky offer.if that doesn't pan out I'll just wait for another one to surfaceComment

just means its been out the garage in real weather.
In all honesty, the underside is probably ok...mine has rusted on the front slam panel but underneath bar a small sill area is sound...
I remember looking at a few of these and the steering wheels were in alsorts of condition, I consider mine to be in excellent condition even having done 225k miles but i saw some on ~100k milers which were cr^p.sigpic
