  • Loss of RS2 to water, Gutted being the understatement

Guys and girls, just wanted to let you all know that my greatly loved RS2 has been flooded out today. Ironically when I went round to the lock-up this morning at 9.30 the river had remained behind the bank, unfortunately not even an hour later it cam over and my lock-up and pretty much everyone else have suffered a great loss to personal equipment, cars and expensive tools lost to the water coming up about 5 feet, the water came up to just below the window line of the door and almost to the top of the bonnet, so we can safely assume that the airbox will be full and water had come up through the exhaust. I wont even think about trying to start her at all and worse to come is that the floor in front of the lock-up has broken with the river running below so even if I could get her out of the lock-up I cannot until the floor is made safe??!! My beloved Q7 was also in there and she too has been flooded!!!! totally and utterly saddened by this loss. Cannot believe the bad luck, however we are fortunate that it was only cars written off unlike some that have had their homes destroyed by the waters farther south...

Those of you who had seen my RS2 know such immaculate condition she was, not wanting to put any pictures up yet as by time the water subsided it was dark and light was poor.

So if anyone can shed some light as to how I can persuade my insurance "Sky insurance" to assist me in paying out as much as I can I'd welcome the info. I'm not always online and tomorrow it will be a day of making calls to try to get a good claim. I'm with Audi insurance for the Q7 so hoping they too will be sympathetic in this cause.

Further to this I will look to possibly buy the RS2 back from the insurance and try to sell her for spares/repairs or a very good project, she was indeed in immaculate condition.

How absolutely devastatingly awful! Really feel sorrow for you,i just can't believe this bad news especially remembering when you tried to keep up with us in the Q7 but ultimately gave up on the Autumn Epic Scottish tour. I don't know you well but feel as if it were my pain also. Really sorry for you and wish you every luck with your insurance to get a payout both cars deserve.

              Really sorry to hear that....
Let battle commence with the insurance. You certainly have enough ammunition to back up values. One on Pistonheads at the minute for starters.

Not sure what it's will be left of worthwhile use for salvage.
Obviously trim will be knackered along with electrics/mechanicals???

I could regime your grill rings and base

Gutted for you is not the words... Looked a real minter on your posts.

If you can definitely buy back the salvage. I am sure you can resurrect the car if you have the inclination.
There is a well known thread on here of an RS2 that was saved after spending some days submerged in a canal.

Nightmare but you might get out of it.

Immediately do what you can to get the water out of the car now and start drying out the interior. Leather and moisture = mold very quickly. Carpet and under padding probably need to be removed.

Contact your insurance company. Angle for total loss and get a good pay out. Argue very rare especially in RHD form. Buy car back and start the repairs.

ECU will be an issue but it might be possible to dry it out. Don't crank engine until all the spark plugs are out and the oil is changed. Then crank to purge water. You might get lucky. With dry ECU and plugs back in and fresh fuel (empty tank first). Try to start engine

                  Good luck.

                        That's terrible...

Take your time in making any decisions, the basic structure of the car and indeed engine can be carefully dried out and cleaned, the interior will need some more specialist help. But, what man has maketh, man can maketh again.... Far worse has been recovered to mint concours condition. Good luck, whatever route you choose...

Thank you all for the sympathy, we're heading to bed now (whether we can sleep or not remains the question), been a long day indeed had to wait couple hours for the water to recede then it was just get in and see what has happened, apparently the water is on the rise tonight, but it cannot make it any worse, best thing is it's fresh water not salt water.

I'm told that Sky are meant to be pretty sympathetic but will be sitting down for the call. I've not got the first inclination as to sort her and she is tight parked against a wall but not touching and the Q7 is right next to her also dead, cannot move the Q7 as the floor has broken what a nightmare, but I cna get into the boot however this wont make getting leather and carpets out easy at all...

I've a good machanic buddy who I will ask to come look at the engine and see if he cn work his magic, but because of the water in the electrics I'm not willing to risk turning the engine over but maybe try to crank her to get the water out of the pots at least the n maybe put some WD40 or something to prevent rusting up.

Good night folks and again thank you all for your concerns
