Very true Tony, family are ok...she is part of the family too but in a different way as you know. I'm just pleased that at least after all the begging you managed to get to see her in the flesh, if I need anything and I think you can help I will call on you, thank you

Memories Charlie, excellent memoriesI believe I saw this car on the May Scotland mission, here's you next to me & Kit:

To lose that to a river overflow must make you want to cry
whatever outcome comes of it I hope it's the best one you can get with the least fuss and red tape possible... From what Kit says, perhaps that would be the most prudent route. Anyhow, fingers crossed...
I've got a plan and will post up soon...

Really sad to hear this! If it were me I would consider not bothering with insurance at all for the rs2. I'm fairly sure rs2 will be worth a small fortune within the next couple of years max. If you take a payout now and are not able to keep the car due to the cat b status, then you will kick yourself when they are selling for 3 times the price they are now.
Everything can be fixed, it may take some time and patience finding parts etc, but worth it in the long run I think. I'm currently fully restoring an rs2 myself and the parts are not cheap or easy to come by, but I'm pretty sure my investment is safe, have turned down multiple offers for the car as it stands now in bits! From people in the know! Which is always a good reason to hang onto something.
The mechanicals will all be fine. Engine/gearbox/diffs etc once the water is removed, and internals inspected for grit/mud etc from the river water. The main bit that could cause you issues are the loom and electrics and interior. But something will come up at some point.
In fact on eBay right now is a spares repair rs2 for sale. Has interior and loom still! Get that bought and use for all the bits you may need especially loom and interior. Then break the rest of it for spares.
Good luck with whatever you do. Such a shame to hear these stories!Leave a comment:

That is a new one to me, my missus dropped her phone in water last year, however sue to it be ing at the bottom of the Pentland Firth it would be safe to assume I'd need a lot of rice! If I get to this point of getting the ECU out I may try this one, thanks

Thank you, but it will be some time before we can get into her before I get this sorted out so it will just sit until the floor of garage made safe...as for trying anything not a chance, I know how much water in the engine can mess it all up as it does not compress like fuel as a mate of mine found out years ago...Excellent advice here...
Gutted to read what's happened.
I had the same happen to my (then) pride and joy 300zx, managed to dry it out and get it running.
The key is to take the interior out and not 'try' anything until fully dried out.
The fact that water has gone in the air intake and up the exhaust will not worry anything - as long as its all dried out and fluids changed.
Gearbox too as water will have entered through the breather...
Good luck...

Battery was already disconnected when put her away for the winter Kit however the water rose above the terminals so we can safely assume there was some connection made...Gutted to hear this Mike.
First thing to do is remove the battery, if you haven't already done that, I say "remove" so there can be no chance of it being reconnected by mistake. As long as you haven't moved the ignition key in theory the ECU etc may well survive once thoroughly dried out.
Personally I'm not sure if I'd involve my insurance company regarding the RS2, flood damaged stuff tends to be classified as 'B' and can only be broken for spares. I'd get it in somewhere safe ASAP, drop all oils, pull out the seats and carpet, hire a couple of dehumidifiers and get it drying, remove the ECU and put it somewhere warm like a clothes airing cupboard.
If the insurance company remove it sadly it's unlikely you'll ever see the car again
As you mentioned it's only fresh water, if it were the sea even I'd admit defeat and fall on the mercy of my insurance.

Cheers Andy but how do you get a claim from the insurance without getting it classified as CAT C/D? Plus getting her somewhere to keep is the issue now...That is sad.

If you dont want a CAT C/D car and/or dont have the time to fix it it I would keep it, get the payout from the insurance, buy it back from the insurance then sell the car on here/ebay and between the payout and the selling the car you should be able to replace it.
Document all the RS2s for sale just now to argue market value.
Or if you have time for a project then good luck.

Thanks Mike she will not be broken that is for sure...Noooooo! This really saddens me Mike, absolutely gutted for you.
Whatever you do with insurance don't let them take the car if you do want to buy it back to either put back on the road or break for spares. Let them come and inspect it or whatever else but don't let them take it.
If you need any help at all with anything just let me know I'm only down the road.
Mike

That is far worse than my situation and I can empathise with your mate's parents predicament, we still have health and our home at the least!! Pass on our thoughts please to your mate and his parents?!Sorry for your loss, my mates mum and dad's house has been flooded in Cumbria too, a complete nightmare.
Your RS2 was a very fine example, enjoyed your thread when you picked it up from Belgium. It's just awful news.
Hope the insurance company pays out what you deserve.

Really gutted for you Mike,
you just have to try and convince the insurance your cars true worth!!! how rare these cars are, and how few were made.
Copy of adverts ect, ect. I know there aren't many out there but you have to try.
If you need some inspiration to get the best out of this horrible situation have a look on youtube @ AUDI RS2 MY HISTORY by wobsite, I think this is the one that went into the canal.
I took the engine out of my RS2 a couple of weeks ago at work, took the car home but left the engine at work and guess what, YEP! work got flooded on Boxing day
The difference for me is that my engine was taken out for a full refurb!
I really hope everything works out for you

Good luck pal, at the end of the day it will be written off and no doubt you will get a good settlement! Im pretty sure it will be written off cat a b not sure if they will allow you to purchase it back but the main thing is they pay you a large amount as for the car being so rare and a model that the no longer produce.Leave a comment:
