Yeah it's true a good payout would soften the blow but then she would be CAT B at least, the water was floating in the dials...

If you need some inspiration to get the best out of this horrible situation have a look on youtube @ AUDI RS2 MY HISTORY by wobsite, I think this is the one that went into the canal.

I took the engine out of my RS2 a couple of weeks ago at work, took the car home but left the engine at work and guess what, YEP! work got flooded on Boxing day

The difference for me is that my engine was taken out for a full refurb!

I really hope everything works out for you
I'm sure your engine will come out pretty well, thankfully your car was away from it all! you can see the watermarks on the brickwork there, I've already seen some other older ads, but the insurance would want recent ones and I'm not sure they'd care too much about the history these days, they just see a car and give some cover for it...

Pretty sure your insurance will class it cat b, you won't be able to buy it back unless you have a breakers license, and even then it will be for parts only, the shell will have to be crushed.

Guys, thank you all for your words of wisdom, your kind thoughts and concerns it really is appreciated at this time. With my heart and mind working against each other it has been a sad decision but here is what we are going to do...I cannot believe what I'm about to do nor I guess can those of you who know me and have met the car in person...

This is now going to be the plan (flexible). I was going to let the insurance look at her, give an assessment as to how much they would value her and payout, then buy back. However I really do not want to take her down the CAT B route for her to be a nause not getting to drive her, worse parting with her to another enthusiast in the future would have insurance issues.

Other issue is getting access to the car, ATM she is stuck between the Q7 also totalled and a wall, so it will be a while before I can even get the doors open on her as we cannot drive vehicles over the front of the garages due to the floor being broken with water pressure from the lade below, not just for me either there is a guys who's lost 2 very high spec Jags and another car, up to about 40 motorbikes lost in the water too in various storage units, well you get the picture...

I will start another thread in the "For Sale" area and open her up to offers as a project restore. I know there are some people out there who would have the facilities and the abilities to strip down and get her going again with some work. I really must emphasise that had I the place to do such a job I would have it in there soonest and start doing the work, but there is so much going on at the lock-ups now and really have no trust in that she will be safe in there any longer, not to mention the fact that once your heart is broken that cannot be repaired and I will always see her in this light, I cannot be changed.

I hope she goes quickly as this is just torture for us all and now my mind has been made up it has to be done now. If she does not have any takers then I will do what I can to sort her out but will take years I know and my heart will not be in it as much as it was since seeing her so sad, soggy and lost. My heart has been torn apart, but this is the way. Not to mention the job prospects are not as they were last year so funding for such a project will be difficult.

                  Ombudsman info on vehicle valuation

Information for financial businesses about our approach to write-offs and valuations for cars, motorbikes and caravans.

Sounds like a report from an independent specialist, eg Coxy will carry weight, adverts will not.

Also interesting that the "Written Off" practice is a voluntary code.

I work in insurance, albeit not motor but usually you have a right to buy back the salvage, and I would recommend doing that, it saves the insurer disposal and storage costs so usually a reasonable deal can be negotiated. Older water damaged cars tend to get broken not sold on.
I have not heard of your insurer but I do hope the claim goes well. Take plenty of photographs/evidence before doing anything. That is a good tip to put the ECU into rice, but also any other relays etc..you can easily remove. As commented already don't turn the engine over unless the plugs have been removed first. Open any internal or external bung holes you can find. Wash everything else down with fresh water. Buy a big box of WD40 use masses of this, it works wonders and is what we used to use on navy helicopters. Then try and borrow or buy one of those 'carcoon' type dehumidifiers, you may even be able to claim that back off the insurance or get them to agree to allow you to buy to prevent further damage. Even if it looks a mess now don't assume it is a total loss, anything you can do now if you buy the salvage back will make it easier later on.

My car was cat b I got to keep with out breakers licence as I was original owner. If insurance take car they can only pass to someone with breaker licence.

this is open already but there is very little air movement in there and dont want to trust the electrics either after that water ingress, as in the garage electrics...

Probably could actually but then where do I put her after, we have no other storage and the guy that runs the place has insisted no-one move any vehicles until an assessment has been made
