Ok guys again and I cannot say this enough, thank you for all your word.

I've been researching gennies and de-humidifiers and is going to be costing a lot to get hold of, I guess buying outright is the way ahead but renting could be an option too. I'm going to make a call to the insurance and just ask how this would proceed to have "cash in leu" of repairs and hope they don't get all silly.

We're still at risk for another couple days before we can move the gear out of old lock-up into new where car is, need all my tools. But today is not a good day to be going ther pe as there is still risk of flooding coming into the compound and we cannot risk getting caught out like one of the guys when the first flood came, it came so quickly he had to run out apparently.

    Will keep you posted.

You ended hanging about outside in the freezing cold waiting for the dehumidifier to do it's work, sadly not enough power for a heater too. Don't rule out the rice thing either, heard a few stories of it working very well. Caravanners use dishes of salt too, they just suck up the water and caravan shops sell bags which will do the same, same stuff that's in electrical goods when you open the packaging, forget right now what it's called but it also works. Think you are doing the right thing keeping it and fixing yourself, all the best with it, will watch in here with interest
We have the caravan too, luckily she only had a touch of water on the cowling over the to which and even then it was only an inch, she's now sitting in the field with the others rescued, unfortunately many more were not so lucky and there vans have been submerged inside as far as the seat cushions!! Anyway we have these moisture boxes in the van which means you don't have to go too often there, just to tip the water out and refill will what I believe is silica granules, they work very well but over time and the air must be stagnant.

On my lunch break so go to be quick. You don't need a large dehumidifier, both Tristan and I use them to dry out our vehicles when wet inside, in my case a Coupe and in his case a Landy he takes through rivers etc.

It's only really the inside of the car that needs rapidly drying, the outside is designed to get wet after all. I set one up inside the car, close all the windows/doors and well as all heater vents then carefully close one door with the plug end of the cable outside of the car.

I have something semi industrial which I picked up second hand, while Trist uses something along these lines and empty's it frequently.

That was just the quickest example I could find, I'm not say get that particular model but you don't need to spend a large amount of money on one.

Thanks Kit, I've looked online for these and found a guy locally who can rent me a turbo dryer, he's used it on cars and can dry a car out completely in 3 days, he also has some stuff that cleans up the upholstery and carpets once out of car and can dry these in a few hours with the turbo dryer. He's done cars over his time too, seems to know what he's talking about. The only way he can describe it is hanging washing out in a windy day but indoors and is all about the airflow movement, so looks like we have a plan, plus my mate said we can borrow his gennie.

Mike, really really sorry to hear this has happened, as you say it's not your house that's been under water and you're ok.
Sounds like you have a plan taking shape though which is good. Have read some good advice in some of the previous posts and I'm sure with time, good advice, heaters and de-humidifiers then why shouldn't your car be returned to it's previously beautiful state?!
              Keep the faith.

O no what a gutting experience.

If i remember correctly there was a thread on here years ago with somebody who brought one like that and saved it quite easily.

In the meantime if you haven't already done so I'd remove all the relays and electronic control units and put them in the airing cupboard or other warm place. The window control relay along with a couple of others are under the dash. Also the central locking/pump control unit could do with being somewhere warm, it located behind the offside opening panel in the boot in a thick foam jacket.

Photograph the relay locations to avoid being really confused in future.

Thanks John, I'm getting some great advice, talked with insurance yesterday, they are not going to take her away and may help with something but not sure how far they will go with it without it actually being a claim, getting all oor stuff out of old lick up too so not just the cars to deal with but she's laying there with doors boot and bonnet open so it's helping the cause. Couldn't get stuff like all my tools moved as we were constantly watching and expecting the river to breach again so up there again today then get all stuff shifted out.

Will be getting onto that stuff as soon as we've moved our gear round and can set up somewhere to store all the bits that are removed without making clutter in the new area which is where the caravan was sitting and untouched by water, she is a little higher but not too bothered right now as once I get her sorted out am getting one of them sealed carcoons if the water comes again then we'll be a little safer.

Mike, in the pics the cars are very close together? I'm assuming you parked them this way and they haven't shifted themselves.......in short I assume there's no bodywork damage as such?

I just wanted to add, the cartoon isn't sealed, it has two large foam pads on the front with fans that blow air through, if the water came again it'd still flood the car.
