They've increased the offer by ~£2k.

While this is more like it, it's slightly less than I'd hoped for. I'm trying to get them to release the salvage rather than up the money.

My Coupe quattro is also insured by Elephant. Based on this experience, I probably won't use them again.

If I do, an agreed value will be used in advance.

I'm now on the lookout for another S2 Coupe. Only criteria I have is, it must be a 6 speed, perferably not modified and any colour except white or silver. Mileage is not a major issue and neither is air-con or leather as my last one had neither.

2K!!! push them for market value! They try anything to get out of paying full amount for a claim. They will also fight to prevent you getting salvage on some legal technicalities. I have fought insurance companies twice (Elephant and Direct Line). I got what I wanted in the end. It took a little time but was worth the fight. I went to the family solicitor once (my dad works in the law game) and it was well worth it for advice on letter content. Mainly, what to write when, and how to store ammuition so that you don't run out of arguments. Both times we got the insurance companies to back themselves into such a corner that they could do nothing but oblige to my demands! My dad is brilliant at manipulating people like this and often uncovers chinks in their armour (usually administrative which can sometimes be neglectful which is a complete nightmare for insurance firms). I wrote off my dads brand new mini when I was 17 and he wrote 26 letters in 25 days to the insurance firm (Frizzels, I think). He ended up getting more than he paid for the car and they even reimbursed for the tow hitch and car mats which he had fitted. Very impressive stuff!

A breakers would probably get 2K from selling your bits on!!

PS When dealing with insurance firms NEVER do anything over the phone. Insist on everything in writing as it really makes them think about what they say, especially when they know you are on the ball legally. Get some legal advice mate!!!!!!!!!

The blue one in Birmingham should be getting checked out by a mate as I write this.

The first offer was 4800 less the excess. New offer is just over 6800 less the excess, which is not far from what I was expecting.

Its amazing what they try to get away with. Why only offer you £4800 when they are prepared to go to £6800 as a second offer. ****** rip of merchants :mad:
