    21" Monitor

    I'm selling my 21" monitor. Its a Hitachi CM2111ME. It'll happily run at up to 1600 x 1200

Its in full working order. I've just moved home and I don't have anywhere to put it any more, so I'm going to get a smaller flat panel instead.

I'm looking for offers over £75. We can discuss shipping later, but beware - this is one heavy piece of kit! I nearly put my back out carrying it up a flight of stairs. And then I decide that I don't want it any more

I switched to a 19" flat panel with my new PC, and I am hating flat panels already! Lighter and more compact, yes, but it's very difficult to get a decent colour match compared to the CRT monitor I used before. Additional to that, my current piece can adjust for image width but not for height, although it can be positioned in both directions. The result is that I have to live with ever-so-slightly distorted images and not quite perfect colour and contrast. Not good for someone doing shoots with models in his spare time...

Oh yes, and I cannot understand why this 3.8 GHz, 1Gb processor struggles with floating image selections when my old 550KHz, 128Mb processor didn't?!!! Very annoying.

I'd buy the monitor - but I already have one 19" CRT and a 19" flat panel and two PCs sat on this desk...

You're absolutely right, flat panels still don't have the picture quality of a crt screen...
      That's why I haven't switched to a flat...

        pc forum or s2 lol

personally i now prefer TFT monitors to CRT as they are much brighter colours but i suppose like everything it depends on which make model you have. also TFT´s dont give you as much headaches/eye problems as CRT´s do.

but as long as it works ok

Get an athlon 64, raw processing power is better than the pentium, the pentium is better at running apps that calculations with it's hyper threading.

Still waiting for XP 64bit, (microsoft has to pull the developer to write SP2 for XP because of the major bug fixes )

I have XP 64bit, had it for about 2 months. Best chip for gaming atm is the pentium-M.
Best overall chip is the Athlon 64 i guess, good value as well.

TFT's still cannot match a very good CRT for speed or colour reproduction.

I would say i'm on planet gaming m8 . I dont tend to post what i can't back up with facts. In this case it is something i know a lot about. The current crop of Pentium-M mobile chips can equal and sometimes out perform a high end P4 Extremes and Athlon 64 FX chips in gaming. If you are unaware of this then its best not to post comments like the above.

I’m a complete AMD advocate, used them for years, since the 486 days in fact. P4's just don’t impress me, but you do have a point, I know the last of the socket 370 P3's were faster in the real world than the first P4s but a Pentium-M is a mobile cpu is it not vs an Athlon 64, sorry but i just don’t believe it

I have a pentium-M 740 in an aopen pentium-m motherboard and can confirm it easily outperforms my A64 3000+ winchester. i dont just mean in benchmarks, but frame rates in-game. as i said before i would not post if it was not true.

They are coming close though, we now sell panels with a 4ms response time.

Interesting, I’m genuinely surprised on how close it was on some of the benchmarks It didn’t manage to outperform the others, but it was very close. You’re still very limited in terms of FSB and memory bus speeds. If they can bring out a more up to date chipset and memory bus the performance would be far better. Guess its all down to what you want to use the machine for, I'll stick with an Athlon 64 all the same...

                          Mark.

                          (Good article though)

Whilst i agree Pentium M is a stonking chip and can out perform the A64 (used one at work), i've discluded it until it goes main stream and they push it a s mainstream chip.

It's being used as a sideline at the moment, the reaction of above is typical if you mention Pentium M, people go what??
