Now I hate to put a downer on this, but... Paul and i were talking today about this and started to banter some numbers about...

Lets say it 2500 mile there and back, @ 25mpg, that's a hundred gallons of fuel at an average of £3.50 a gallon?? that's £350 in fuel miniumum!! double that if we toe it! Gotta be a hundred quid for the ferry crossing, then food, then a nights stay somewhere, then beer money and toll money,

That's a bout 600 quid for one car and one driver. Just thought I'd throw this in the mix...... Not that that puts me off, well .... if someone else is paying that is!!

I would LOVE to do a euro road trip with a load of S2's, but this is going to be seriously expensive! I'm still up for it though, if someone else pays the bills!!

      :wacked:

P.S this assumes that you're based in the south of England, if you hail from Dougs scenic part of the country, then add on another 1000 miles of fuel !

I can't wait to see how my car feels compared to Marks - it's all his fault afterall - just hope he doesn't move the goalposts!

I am up for it as long as it is after the first weekend in January.

I can get a ferry 5 miles down the road in Rosyth, to Zebrugge for 200 Euros return for 2 people and car - 17.5 hour overnight trip.

Is the Stelvio Pass on our route?

I'm not too worried about the price. It will be worth it the mini holiday. I drove to Munich and back last year. I went to a friend's wedding and I did the whole thing on my own splitting the Journey in Frankfurt both ways. The S2 performed faultlessly and it was nice to cruise between 120 and 140mph for a few hours. Brilliant. Sorry Mihnea, but Belgian drivers are nutters (from what I've whitnessed). Fuel prices are cheaper in Europe but I seem to recall Germany starting to close in on the UK price lead. There is plenty of stuff we can do en route if people want to do it over a few days. I have a few ideas that could make it quite interesting.

Martyn, I'm with you with your arguments.

I mean that doing such a trip with more than 1 max two cars (well actually 1 car and 1 van would be better) and 2/4 people, will turn to be quite expensive.

Of course if you can manage to take a big number of parts at very good price, trip costs can be divided on them at a percentage proportional to theyr value, and this could still be less than having them shipped separatly.

For example, all the parts so far requested at the prices you gave me, would do something around 4.000 Euros (this excluding gearbox and engine that I was planning 80% to keep for myself) which is a price I belive (and hope) I can even better.
But apart from these, I've decided I'll take the risk of taking all the other good stuff I find (and I have the time to unbolt), which may also include full AC system, complete doors (maybe right side ones are still good), brake pump, steering box, rear diff, cats and whatever, for which I will offer a very low price at the seller meaning I can give them at ridicolous prices.
Moreover I still have a great number of 3B parts (gearbox, head, doors, wheels, electrical, AC stuff etc.) + RS2 wheels like new, Yokohama 245/40 17 tyres, 5x130 RS2 hubs complete with axlearms and good bearings, ABY IC, ignition coils, etc. etc. which now I want to get rid of (to much time laying around unused) so I can give them at ridicolous prices as well.

But all this 5, 10, 50, 100 euros parts will still make another 5-6.000 Euros.
So if total travel charges could be kept in the 2000 Euros range, charging percentage on each part could be even less than 20%. If the echonomical conditions will be the ones I hope, then, considering most of the parts would cost at least 50% less then theyr resonable used value, we can still make this a good deal for everybody.

Other option, as I already suggested, is sending everything by mail into a couple of pallets (maybe three).
How much could that cost for lets say 200-300 kg pallets?

              Marco

P.S. All this, of course, apart from the fact I would love to have you here and will make all I can to be the best host on Earth.

Valid points!! we'll let the troops decide!

I had a look at shipping, 500 kg would cost about 500 UK roughly to ship to the UK by road freight.
