Yes vagcom was plugged in,and we drove the car with it plugged in each time we cleared the codes, and drove it again g28 came up. It seemed to drive ok when the codes were cleared, then each time the car had this split second cut out i've been expe'riancing it logged a fault for g28, all this when driving along.

G28 code comes up in Vagcom when the engine is not running on these cars (at least it does on mine) so I would imagine that with the cutouts your getting that would induce the g28 to come on thinking the engine is not running.....
I would think you will get identical reading even with a brand new g28 (ie/ yours is not broken!!)
Confused now, do I fit a new g28, or spend the money down the Pub, answers on a postcard please to www. drown your sorrows dot pub dot s2
The reason to think otherwise is that the engine has cut out. Therefore the speed sensor is not getting a reading
Lou, have you vagcommed it with the engine running, cleared faults and the speed sensor fault still shows? or does it just pop up after the cut out you mention?
What have you looked at to find the source of the cutting out problem?
Does anyone know for definite what a faulty g28 would cause?? if its symptoms are like this it would be worth it for the sake of peace of mind ma
Yep vagcom when engine running , cleared faults and up she comes again.
I was driving the car at the time, the Audi guy was holding the lap top,and the car would'nt cut out till we had done a few runs, but I am sure the fault came up after clearing before it eventualy did cut out, but when it did the fault came up at the same time. He seemed to be convinced that that was the problem,as there where no other faults.
I drove the car again today, and paid particular attention to the dash lights to see if they came on when the engine jolts/cuts out, but they do not,but it happens so quickly that there may be no time for it. I am sure its not a misfire, and that its a split second cutout, but whats causeing it I don't know, it seems to happen at around 1500/ 2000 revs, and if you are very gental with the throttle you can get it to do it two or three times on the trott, other than that it do'se it at random, but what ever you do you can't make it happen. The problem is that I can't make it go away,I can't even sell it like this, so I can buy an RS2 ,off which there seems to be alot for sale at the moment, which is odd.
