    No problem.

Honestly, I've only held Pauters a few times and I don't have any factual data on them to compare them to other rods out there. You might be able to find information on their website about particular rods.

Your roots of lightening and balancing N/A Triumph engine internals certainly applys here. These (VAG) engines have flywheels that are overly heavy, large front crank pulleys and heavy crankshafts. Audi built these cars for luxury sport, so all the added weight makes the car easier to drive for the average person and hushes all the chatter noises that you get with super light internals. Unfortunately, that's not good enough for any of us! We want lightweight and more power to the wheels!

That said, light can certainly be made stronger. But it's not always the proper solution - sometimes very cost prohibative or downright unattainable (unless you are a pro-race team).

So what would you recommend, having seen the Pauters, Scats etc?

What are the estimated prices of these?

I ask as if the Pauters are 25% and rated as the better and lighter rod, then I would pay the difference. If they were double the price and not rated as any or much better and only marginally lighter, then the recommended alternative would be the obvious route.

        Si,
Every build I do requires dependable rods. Scat has been around for many many years, pushing 800hp out of aircooled VW bugs back in the day. I choose them for my needs. They have been around the block more than I have.

I have used Pauters a few times when a customer requested them, but here in the USA the Pauters are 2x more expensive than Scats. Eagle rods are also much more expensive than Scat. So if the decision is up to me, I'd rather save the customer a few $$ on rods (because I can still depend on them), and put the saved money elsewhere - like spending time balancing and CCing the combustion chambers.

So I hope that helps your decision. Do what you are most comfortable with. Ask around on the forums. Plenty of people use each rod with fantastic results. Fact of the matter is, you can't go wrong with any LARGE name manufacturer. Just stay away from the no-name ebay stuff and you'll be just fine.

          DAMN!!

That basically means that I should have bought the rods at the beginning of this thread

What makes it worse is that I spotted this thread as soon as James posted it as I happened to be on line. However I have no knowledge of Scat rods ar how much a new set would cost

Thanks for all your advice....don't suppose you are in Miami next week? I will be and would buy you a few

          Cheers n

haha Oh well, you live and you learn. Right?

No Miami for me next week. And I'm quite a way from there. Have fun, enjoy some sun shine!

                Jamo I know the answer!

I've got Scat 159/21mm in my engine. ;-) Also a very nice combo.

Ah yes the 159mm Scats, very popular state side with the Eurovan conversion.
