Potential Group Buy: Vagcom 908 cables/chinese clones

    Hi All,

Apologies if this is out of line/not appropriate here, but I'm in the process of buying another vagcom908 cable as i've gone and lost mine ;((

    Anyway.

I've sourced some, and know for sure they work with the vagcom 908 software provided with it.

At the moment, they're $35 with $20 shipping, but that price is based on one item. So obv the more people buy the better we do on the shipping and item price.

I've been on here for sometime now, don't post a lot since I sold my 80 v6 sometime ago, however, if all goes to plan, i'll be looking to source a UR RS2-spec next year!

So, should anyone be interested, I'm more than happy to provide details and anything else to ensure you can be sure of dealing with someone who isnt fly-by-night.

I'm looking to cover any postage I incur and the same applies to any import duty should that happen, but the supplier shipped them as 2nd hand computer cables last time so went straight through customs.

I'm based in Sheffield so happy to meet up with you should this be something you want to go ahead with.

    Please post comments/questions/etc

Just confirmed, 5 items = $32 each and 10 items = $30 each, not a lot of discount but think it would work out much better on the shipping front.

Assuming that they would come with a 2x2 adaptor I'd definitely be interested in one of these. I'll start a list!

They wouldn't come with a 2+2 adapter as is, however, they're $4 for those that want 'em. Jt

Do these work with the CANBUS cars?
Having access to this would be a nice to have thing but i've not wanted to pay the $299 for the real deal via ross-tech

I would personally rather buy the correct Ross Tec kit.

This supports the company and allows them to continue with the product support/upgrades etc.

Yes bud they do, the ebay specials don't ... they work only the KKL lines as I understand it.

Likewise, I'd *prefer* to buy all my spare parts from Audi, I'd like to buy my oil direct from the refinery, i'd like to ensure I use only genuine software on my computer and that all the customers we support use only genuine software, certainly never download an mp3 from an illegal site etc etc.

While I don't agree we should buy clone equipment as a rule, £300 doesn't make sense to the hobby user (unless of course you see fit). Of course, should my 'hobby' of VAG engine diagnostics develop along with the purchase of a newer car, then I have absolutely zero hesitation in giving the guys in the states my hard earned, up until that, i'm happy to use a clone cable.

Hope that doesn't sound off or funny, its certainly not my intention. just wanted to put across the above and hope that i don't tread on toes.

Ive been looking at a few options for this. Have taken a punt on an ELM327 interface from ebay and going to try pyOBD and see how I get on. If I like it I may see if I can enhance the gui functions and add some more functionality.

elm ok for engine probs on *most* (some) cars, and vagcom isn't much more expensive - and the right tool for the job within the vag group. elm does have some pretty cool software available, but seriously, how often are you going to use a simulated rev counter and other 'features'. Try recoding a body module with an elm unit

Yeah not sure how difficult that will be just yet, will see when it arrives. But for the cost of a cable vs cost of vagcom which works on canbus it was a bit of a no brainer to give it a try.
