7A to AAN conversion problem

Hi,

One of my mates is doing coupe 20v (7a) conversion to AAN. Engine is fitted, however when he fits his ex-7a gearbox - it is not possible to turn the engine. He is using 10vt flywheel, and clutch which fitted perfectly to my 016 gearbox.

I know many ppl here have done 3b/aby/aan conversions to the 20v quattro coupes. Is there any issue with gearbox.

What can possible be the cause of such "stuck" ?

012 gearbox (7a, 3b) has a short mainshaft
016 gearbox (urq, 20020v, many 10v turbos) has long main shaft

01e gearbox (aan, aby, 6spd) doublemass can be changed to single mass if s2-3b flywheel and clutch are used.

Possible the output shaft of the 7A and the spigot bearing / 10V turbo clutch assembly are not compatible, or the flywheel is hard against the gearbox once the bolts are tightened...

Get your mate to loosen the bellhousing bolts and see if the engine can be turned then.

Use the AAN flywheel and clutch and it will work just fine!

7A cars have a 01A gearbox and its different to 016.

an just to make clear, depending sources 012 or 01a gearbox family names are used, they are same.

For my AAN into 7A i used a 7A clutch/pressure plate and a fidanza 7a flywheel.

$265 US dollars for the flywheel not bad if you ask me. (There is a 1 month wait time though, not a highly bought item here in the us.

Can a 7A flywheel and clutch be matted to a 6spd gearbox? Or would an AAN flywheel be needed?
