Mind you it is a lot easier to press the bearings out when it's been blasted! It only took 5 tons, it wasn't moving at 18 tons before blasting!

Wizard , not everyone would know that!

The Zinc coating was sprayed on in a paint form. The paint would I feel be Zinc rich primer.

It would be best to have this "zinc" professionally placed on?Or anyone can do it?

I'm sorry I don't know exactly what kind of stuff they sprayed, but I know it was something with zinc. The guy I'm taking the bits to get painted is going to prime them with a special primer, I'll find out what it is, and then paint them as normal. I was originally going to have the stuff powder coated but I have a mate who's currently dealing with some issues with that which I didn't feel like dealing with. Not to mention that I really don't care, I just want the stuff to look good...

Wizard the best thing to do is to get the items sand blasted ( generic term for sand/shot/bead etc.) then it can be painted on. I use some Akzo nobel paint which is called PA10 and can be brushed on. Zinc rich paint can be painted on as well.

Genuine zinc rich paint weighs a ton, if you feel the weight of the tin it is very heavy! it is a pig to stir up as well!

You need a good base coat and a good top coat. Paint that is too hard is not good for cars as it can chip when stones hit it. Powder coating/ stove enamelling can suffer from this as well. I use a top coat called Duosolid 90 90% shine and it is a 2 pack paint that again can be brushed or sprayed. Either is fine but the sprayed finish is much better looking.

David, if you have any input about what primer/top coat to use, lemme know. I'm sure the guy I'm taking it to will be more than happy to use whatever I ask him to....

I'm looking into the few options we have as far as bushes are concerned, and haven't really made any decisions as yet.

Hi Mik, I would not hesitate to suggest AKZO Nobel Duosolid 90. Duosolid 50 is available more easily but has a 50% shine ( satin) which isn't what we want at all!

It does not need any special breathing aparatus. it comes as a colour base coat, hardner 1:1 mix and thinners. It is very cost effective and I can highly reccomend it. It can be supplied as any colour you want ( pink?)

I painted a metal suspension arm left it for 2 weeks and then attacked it with a hammer, It didn't chip at all, the areas that had been hit looked a little dented and dull but it did not split or peel off.

                          It gets my vote!

                          David

                            Sorry forgot to say,

the primer is on now and so you don't need any!.

I use Akzo Nobel PA10 primer which is fantastic, very easy to apply.

Thanks for the info mate, I'll definitely go that route and let you know how it turns out... I can't paint my subframe pink as I'm already going to paint my calipers and struts pink and don't want to go too overboard......how about purple?

Hmm, with the pink and the purple it might look like a bruised undercarriage! painful......
