Coming along nicely with some handy hints and tips along the way. What search terms do I need to find the seal picking tool? -
This tool has paid for itself today.

I marked the socket so I knew when the correct depth was reached.

My old strap wrench was very handy for torque setting.

Gearbox is all ready to go back up.

Yes. Know about that stuff. My Audi mechanic told me about it. Audi do their own version.
I have only used a very thin bead of rtv and will let it dry fully before putting any oil in. I also ran my finger around the bead to flat it off. I don't think any should enter the sump. There is nothing on the outside. Fingers crossed. Did the same on the rocker cover.Leave a comment:

I see you have used rtv for the sump gasket and ive done the same on my Audi sump a few years back bit recently stumbled across something else...
I have just finished putting together an old saab engine which are notorious for leaks and the overwhelming recommendation for gasket sealant was for Stag Wellseal anaerobic sealant.
Never heard of it or used it before and was amazed to see it is liquid and needs to be painted on with a brush. The reason i chose this in the end was to avoid squeeze out of a sealant that goes hard and could end up in the engine.
The stag stuff that may get squeezed out remains liquid and circulates with the oil which is not in the slightest bit problematic.
Its also really sticky stuff so useful for keeping gaskets in place while assembling!
Might be worth considering in the future?Leave a comment:

Yeah, you really may as well do the lot for piece of mind.
If you'd be kind enough to tack one to your next order that would be grand, drop me a PM and we'll sort out funds.

Cheers Kit. I'm changing everything. Even the pilot bearing!
Yes, it's normally Monday. I think the spend is like £130 to get free postage. I will be doing another order soon and can get one for you if you like.

As I said to someone on the classic-audi forum regarding clutch changes "do it right do it once" if it's not been apart before then all these seals and components will be 25+ years old so not to change them whilst the box is out seems crazy to me even if the costs add up a bit it's certainly much cheaper in the long run to simply do the lot in one hit.
Nice to see the flywheel resurfaced, it needed doing from what I could see of the before pic.
Good tip on the slave cylinders, I'd like to grab a couple myself whilst they're available especially given my RS2 is going to be getting a new clutch before it see's the road again. I guess I need to download the App onto my phone and familiarise myself with it, but just to be be clear Monday is when they offer the best discount and how much does one need to spend to get free postage?Leave a comment:

There was quite a bit of oil in the bell housing. I’m not taking any chances, so all the seals are getting changed.

At last the 2nd gasket turned up.

I used a little rtv. Belt and braces job.

I found a new o ring for the oil pick up.
It all went back together no problem.

Very nice, reasons to be cheerful!

I’ve definitely seen worse fuel lines than that!
One car on here had repairs on both lines at almost every clip, and bits of line a foot long missing, bypassed in rubber.Last edited by newsh; 26 August 2022, 14:10.Leave a comment:

So my friendly engineering place did it while I waited.

Well I've ordered one from the USA. £20 all in was worth a punt. Getting a new pipe made will be £60 at least.
Postie on strike so no parts coming today
. Off to the engineering place for them to assess my flywheel. Fixing these cars isn't cheap
