I know everyone likes pictures so here's a few random shots I took today... Engine on the crane, got to dig out my other engine stand assemble it and find some long bolts to attach it securely.

Also got quite a hoard of useful parts, Dave really did me cracking deal on all the bits as job lot which I'm most grateful for. The tyres are a matched set of Dunlop track day rubber to go on the nice set of original 14" BBS RA wheels that came with the car. Though I prefer thd the look of the 15" Aero wheels, It should sit a but lower once I fit the set of shortened stock S2 springs I got from John.

The poor old Corrado is looking sad now, and a couple of pictures of what I've been doing for past couple of months...

My bench needs a serious sort out before I start to pull the motor appart. Also want to get the front end back on the car so I can MOT it with the original engine still in place.

Got an S2/V6 type front bumper and all the lights and grills etc... Just have to work out how to make it fit a B3 Saloon make fit nicely.

Nearly got the V6 bumper to fit, a couple of little bits of plastic needs to be trimmed off and I need to modify the mountings slightly. This pic is just my first mock up. Hadn't really had time to get stuck into anything else.

One of my saved sellers on eBay, a turbo specialist, has some quite special genuine Borg Warner K04 quick spool turbo's up for grabs at a bargain price. The units have a 37ar, a super light billet wheel and shaft and are just oil cooled which does make life easier when it comes to fitting. They're only suitable for sub 300 BHP which I reckon is about the limit of the 2.0 B3 quattro drive line and will work with readily available software.

I think I should sell most of the random turbo's I have stashed to cover the £250 plus postage. I'm going to keep the nice Chinese turbo I got at Christmas time last year and I've got the bit's to build a monster RS2 K26 hybrid turbo in I can work out how make the inlet bigger, guess I'll need to mount it in the lathe.

A quick update to say I've finally decided to go with the Borg Warner K04 001 quick spool turbo from Compressor Racing, I got one by making a pretty cheeky offer which I didn't expect to accepted, looked at my eBay a couple of hours latter and was surprised I needed to pay for it.

Link to the eBay listing in case anyone want's to check out the spec, or perhaps get one for their own 1.8T project. Also the is seller worth saving as they often have Holset HX 35/45's as well as other bargain price turbos. Been following them for year's and they get all sorts of interesting turbo's from tiny to huge and I have never seen any negative feedback.

Have very nearly finished all exterior work on my house at bloody last!, the chimney is done and looks great, just have to install a new flue liner, fit a register a plate and put my nice new cast Iron British made wood burner in place, which I intend to do this weekend so I can start taking all the scaffold down on Monday. We still have at least three month's work inside but once the outside is done and stove installed I'm having at least two weeks off to sort out some stuff to put on eBay (I've got a lot of moneys worth of Corrado/Golf G60 parts), work on cars my B3 80 and C4 100 Avant as they only need a days or so's work get them MOT ready.

I'm going to put the 80 through the test with the stock 115bhp 2.0 engine still in place to get it back on the road and driving correctly whilst I rebuild Dave's old 1.8T bottom end and have decided on using complete small port, very low mileage cylinder head I have attached to another 1.8T engine. None the less it will be fully stripped down to clean it properly, which my local machine will do for me after they've skimmed it. I'll port match it to the manifolds, I'm going be using a small port IM and probably a Chinese cast Iron 'performance' EM which mean's I can flog the Chinese tubular one I purchased at the start of the year for quite a bit of useful cash.

Right am going to leave it there for now, though now I have a new laptop I'll be much more active on here again, I really struggle with a touch screen and I'm not that keen on smart phones in general.

Oh yeah, I'm going to put my old wood stove in my workshop with an external flue straight out of the wall behind, then I can enjoy working in the winter.

I have a set of freshly powder coated S2 springs that have been professionally shortened by about 20mm that I got from Newsh last year as part of a package deal/swap. I have a pair of pretty new OE spec Sachs rear dampers left over from my S2 ready to fit but don't have a matched pair of 50mm front dampers to go with them.

            Found these on eBay...

            https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145396150...Bk9SR7S7ydXiZA

I can't seem to find a better deal than this, am about to hit buy it now, just checking I can't get them for less elsewhere. I have bump stops and top mounts with mount savers in stock as well as a full poly bush set.

I'd like to get the now 35 year old suspension sorted before the MOT as it will give me a good chance to change the flexi pipes a couple of which need replacing for the test as well as inspect everything else, I have a full set of braided steel felxi pipes, new in their packing again left over from my S2, can't recall the brand off hand but know they're high quality, I never had the chance to fit them before I wrote that car off.

I've got poly bushes for everything, mixed brands but they were free and this is supposed to be a budget project. I know if I start to fit them I'll end up doing the lot, I also need need to weld brackets onto the rear subframe and strut tubes for an ARB, got an S2 one knocking about as well as a new pair of drop link's..

Also want to size up fitting larger front brakes, I have the beefy Girling caliper's from a 2,8 V6 C4 which I think I can fit without too much trouble, I know the carriers bolt straight on to a B3 hub which is good start. I guess I could re-drill the 280mm disc's to 4 x 108 if I can make them fit as I have a couple of spare set knocking about, also got a pair of nearly new S2 276mm front dics's which might help with getting the hat height correct, again I'd obviously have to re-drill them to suit. Though it may be easier to buy a grotty set of S2 front caliper/carriers and rebuild them, wish I'd not sold my last pair now.

My final choice of turbo has arrived, absolute bargain, I couldn't purchase a Chinese copy for what I paid. Plug and play, top quality and shouldn't be too much for the drive train, 2.0L driveshaft's and CV joints are much smaller than S2/2.8 V6 items. Going to aim for a bit over 250bhp, that's still going to be very rapid through a low ratio gearbox in a 1000kg chassis and hopefully not break anything.

Have just ordered a pair of new Sashs dampers for the front so have suspension parts sorted. Am going get all four struts and wishbones along with the rear subframe sandblasted and powder coated satin black. I can't face spending a day fighting a knot wheel and still not getting rid of all the rust then painting over it, not to mention the amount of time it'll save and much better finish.

Dave has come to the rescue with a pair of S2 front calipers which is much appreciated! I just need to workout if they'll fit under a 14" rim with 276/280mm disc's. Otherwise I'll be using them with 256mm disc's, regardless that's braking pretty much sorted as well.

New parts always require a quick update!

These just arrived, brand new in their boxes for £88 delivered after a lot of shopping around on eBay.

Will match the the nearly new Sachs ones I already have for the rear, Sachs and Boge are the same company. I'd actually ordered a pair of Sachs ones but these will be identical just with different labels on in Boge boxes.

Not getting much done on my vehicle's as I'm on constant firewood duty as well as trying to sort out a weird non starting fault on my father's ex-milatry dumper which has a load of extra electrical stuff on it. I think I've narrowed it down to a faulty switch but don't have the time today to try and fix it. I can always start it by bridging the starters solenoid but would like it get it working on the key again.

Having a break from it it before I have a tantrum, vehicle electrical problems aren't really my thing. If it was a stereo I'd have fixed it by now.

Oh yeah my father snapped the tap off my oil tank on Wednesday which was a real PITA, I managed to stake the hole quickly with a bit of wood then had the lovely task of plumbing it back in live with 800 liters of oil trying to escape...

Note to future self! Ware gloves while dealing with heating oil or diesel, my hands got a good soaking and the skin is now pealing off the back of them.

Fixed the non starting dumper in the end! Really simple fix, a defective clutch safely switch which took a fair bit of tracing then I had to strip the switch down to clean all the crap out of it.

Anyway, a major piece of my MK2 project arrived today!!!

An original engine loom for the car which I got for a complete bargain price as two connectors are missing and the fuel pump wires have been cut. So I can now pull the G60 lump out and install the stock engine, gearbox, brakes and suspension springs, it has Koni top adjustable's so they can stay.

I was gearing up to make a new loom from scratch, I refuse to pay around £250 for a so called mint one.

Also managed to score an older analog AEM Wideband AFR gauge with a black face and red needle to match my EGT and Boost gauges, not cheap by any means but I got it for less than half the asking price at £80 delivered. It's also the most important Aux gauge of this three IMO. Probably going to mount them in the stereo hole using a UR fitting plate which angles them towards the driver

At £80 still not cheap by any means however AEM AFR gauges are some of the best available. It uses a Boshe 4.9 Llambda sensor and it just so happens I have brand new one of those in stock...

I want to keep my Zetronix set up for my RS2 as have a center dash section already modified to suit which retains the original Sony head unit as well as all the various senders. I spent a long time making it blend into my 3B's dash nicely and almost look factory. Plus the engine in that car is worth more than 10 times as much as a 1.8T motor and as it's running a 380bhp K26/7.hybrid at 1.7 Bar peak boot with a lovely spread of torque.

As I can't edit in photos on my above post here's my OE Digifant loom which I've been trying to find for a reasonable price for sometime. Still had to pay £50 delivered for it but it appears to be a better one than was pictured in the listing, only one connector broken and the fuel pump wires are cut.

I'm amazed by how much MK2 Golf GTI and Corrado parts fetch these days and I have multiple boxes of the stuff. Not as big as my Audi parts stash, less than a third of the size but still a lot to shift.

After Christmas and New Year are over I'm going to get the parts listed on eBay at a sensible rate, as a rule this is not a good time of year to trying to sell classic car parts.

In years gone by I've not listed anything for sale in December.

I can't seem to edit my last post which was a mess so I've put the details in this post.

Here's my B3 80 center console which I've been putting together on a budget.

The UR quattro gauge holder points the towards the driver and make's them easier to read at a glance.

It's far from being finished, I want to do it without cutting the UR holder as they're quite valuable.

The three gauges normally found on Coupe's will go down in the regular place.

I thought it would be interesting to compare the size of the compressor wheels found in common S2/RS2 hybrid turbos. I'll post measurements when I've found my decent verier caliper this evening.

The one on the far left is from an RS2 K24 7200, then we have a Nothelle N300 K26 wheel which is from a Porsche 944 Turbo and the one on the right is an K24 7400 wheel.

Right, I think an update is in order...

Been on a bit of a downer due to my dam left elbow, which is a constant source of irritation. Unfortunately it's going to have to have fairly major surgery to sort it out at some point this year, but once it's done I should be pain free and have a fully working left hand again, only have two fingers working on there currently.

Had a quick look inside the top end of the 1.8T engine from Dave, the head is still just about usable but you can tell it's been starved of oil and I'd rather not use it, the lifters will probably all be knackered I expect looking at the state of the cam caps, you can tell by the colour they've been run hot.

                          This is not a moan!!!!

I purchased the engine as damaged and it came with more moneys worth good quality spares than I paid Dave for the deal he did me. The engine was essentially free and I paid for the parts, 90% of which I require. Such as a solid flywheel and decent clutch, A full engine gasket set and a Chinese cast 'performance' exhaust manifold which looks to be decent enough quality and locates the turbo where I want it.

I'm going to be using a really good small port head anyway so this isn't a problem. I'm sure the bottom end will be fine as, I've dealt with a few of these engines with this issue and it's always the top end that get's it first. I'll only change the shell's if they need doing, otherwise they can stay where they are. Though I will be changing both crank seals while can get at them.

In the mean time I've decided to have some fun with 2.0 3A motor, they're tough little ******s so will take a lot of stick, trust me, it's the only field car engine I failed to make die even with no coolant and hours of flat out fun.

So I've made an adaptation plate to bolt the Chinese T3 turbo I got for £40 last year. just got to work out a bit of pipe work and an oil feed.

Though I could pinch the one off my G60 Golf which would make life simple.

The whole idea of this project is to have some fun making extra power for as little outlay as feasible, so I'm using stuff I've got left over from other projects.

                          The turbo cost £40.

So far including by all new suspension it's at under £400.

Back to the world of sanity I got this extremely good quality set of six lower trims for my C4.

Cost me a touch over £55 including delivery and replacement fitting hardware.

The ones on the car are awful and along with the wings must be sorted.

I'd quite like a latter spec bonnet if I'm painting the front end, then I can fit the much nicer ellipsoid headlight of which I have two sets.

I'll take some pic's of what I've been up to over the weekend, fingers crossed it should be running by Sunday, progress is slow going due to my knackered left arm.

Now, I have something of a conundrum, I want to pull the G60 engine and special racing gearbox out of my MK2 very soon as I wish to move on with fitting the stock 8V engine and box etc I picked up last year with an eye to selling the Golf this summer

In fact with my stash and some bit's and bobs left over from the dead Corrado I probably have all the the parts required to complete the restoration/revision .

Which I will start a thread for, that'll help keep me motivated and you lot can tell me to get on with it.

however I can't seem to get any takers for the charger and engine and obviously once removed they'll be even harder to sell...

So I'm strongly considering fitting the G-Ladder to the 1.8T engine and even perhaps even try twin charging, I really want to do something out of the box with my B3 80 Saloon....

This in't as daft as it sounds, a couple of guys on the VW Vortex forum have done 1.8 20V G60's in MK2 Golfs and gotten good results. There is also at least one twin charged 1.8T using a G-Ladder but I can't seem to find out much about that car other than is was done in Holland and it's blue.

Or my other option would be to use my 2.0 bottom end along with the G60 head and supercharger fitted with the 68mm pulley along with the engine wiring loom and ECU made 210 bhp ECU on a 1.8

I could then do then build the 1.8T up for my C4 instead, to give it some real go, I even have the 30V gearbox and rear diff which would be a good match for a 1.8T motor.

I'll pontificate some more tomorrow as I'm working on the 80 and will probably decide to do what I originally set out to do and someone will by the the G60 stuff eventually.

Washed 'The Turd' as my farther calls it quickly the other day, it actually cleans up better than I recalled. Am still musing on engine choices, though the most sensible thing to do would be to rebuild the G60's charger myself and offer it for sale with a warranty. It's then a £1500 item and in it also means I can sell about another £500 worth of G60 bolt on bits plus the two ECU's and wiring which is at least another £500.

The 1.8T is so cheap and easy to get parts for it really makes sense to take the easiest path, plus I have a cracking K04 001 Billet wheel turbo ready.

In the mean time I still want to find out what is required to turbocharge the existing 2.0 8V engine on K-Jet on a serious budget. So am waiting for a £30 TDi manifold to arrive that will allow me to fit K03/4 turbo's and they're super cheap. I don't want to use my nice one, but I have a K03S Dave gave me that needs a quick rebuild which I can do for less than £50. I have made a reallly big Chinese T04E clone fit but it's huge and probably won't spool up untill over 4krpm.

I had a look on eBay the other day as I kinda fancied picking up another one before they got too expensive. Forget that, they're changing hands for at least £2K now so I'm glad I saved it from being scrapped.

And have also invested in a bottle of this stuff for my cars that are stood for a long time... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375466045615
