Actually, Sal went for a GT3082R (GT30/40R) after the GT3582R (GT35/40R) I've seen them with my own eyes. They use the same compressor.Mate stick with a 3071R or 3076R ( GT30R ) boost is acheived before 4krpm with these turbos and then pulls to redline.
GT42R is too big a turbo, Sal had a GT35/40 and it was too laggy and he reduced it to a 3076 ( GT30R ) and he was allot happier with that.
If you want around 500-550 then go for the GT35/40 ala Audiman but be prepared for a bit of lag.
Audiman's car makes about 0.5 bar @ 3k rpm IIRC, it's hard to tell when it really kicks in, but it's around 4.5k rpm.
If you're going for solid lifters and so on, then you'll be wanting a turbo that can still make boost at 8k, 9k, 10k or however much you decide to rev it. Otherwise you're probably just as well to stick with the hydraulic lifters, smaller turbo and settle for a lower power band.
What do you plan on using the car for? And have you experienced a <500bhp car? It's not for the faint hearted, that's for sure!

Cheer for the info 4WheelDrifter, this is what I wanted!
And re the above quote, I have in both road cars (M5 and various tuned Porsches) and race and rally cars inc Audi A2 Paris Daka rally car, 6R4, Maclaren Cam Am etc etc most of these race cars are what I both worked on and drove as part of a race team.... have you ever tried the furosity of accelaration from a pure 560 brake Cam Am weighing just the wrong side of 1000kg
As for the use this will be my daily drive lol but the GT3 for proper sunny day blasts :mischeif:
I am looking at pegging the rpm at aroung the 8-8200 rpm and BHP of 600ish but a little voice keeps telling me more
basicly I havent desided.

Turbo choice is always a compromise, if you want boost by 2.5k and you want to rev it to 8.2k, there is no turbo in the world which will be capable of supplying that sort of rev range and air flow for 500+ hp.
If 500+ hp is your goal then i think you will have to live with the lag or go with a stroker motor.
Sounds like a cool project keep us all posted on the progress.sigpicComment

600bhp should be fine as a daily driver then. I was just checking.
I think it would be too much for me personally, but I'm told you soon get used to it after a while. I think the GT35/42R is a good choice, but don't take my word for it. Do your research, as it is a very important decision.
As Jon says there is no magic turbo. You have a limited power band with a single turbo setup.
Maybe you need a car like this: :mischeif:

Cheers SR71 I thought that bring a smile to your face, hows the 996 turbo going?
yeah 4WheelDrifter the choice is like a wife something you have to live with and all its faults
That thang is cool, I dont think it pretty but if I had more time thats the look I would go for, super clean... razor sharp.... now you got me thinking.... might have to release some more money for this project:mischeif: may be the Duccati 1098 will have to wait a month or two.
I am already getting quotes on a alloy roll cage (possibly going through the bulk head to the front top stut mounts as per A2 rally car!)and I would like carbon door panels. Alacantara roof lining, GT3 carbon seats
going to now look into totally clearing the engine and bay of clutter... clean, clear and shiney is the way to go and pos stip out the interior to gleaming paint!
STOP GIVING ME IDEAS
(joke, keep em coming!)

996TT?
I'm hoping to collect in May.
Sold the 12R today. With me on it, power:weight ratio is ~650hp/ton. Not quite LHD_Kid turbo'ed Blackbird territory but enough to hit a genuine 190+mph on ~1 mile of track.
I have to confess that the stock 996TT feels slow after this but I doubt it'll be stock for long.
I like a bit of Ruf.
Hehehehe.

ok.... my old setup I used T34. This turbo for a road car was great and gave 390bhp. 27.5 psi running at 2500rpm, with the RS2 Em I really did not know what lag was.
i'm now running a Turbonetics T61. 25psi is achieved at around 4000rpm and then just pulls and pulls - rev limiter has been hit in 5th.
Both setups put a smile on my face but being honest I miss drivability in London of the old setup. But.... when on song the new setup is just something else. Shame best of both worlds cannot be had. And am very confused what is best.
I currently have 530bhp which i can easily increase (600+) by adding bigger exhaust valves to the head - just need to enjoy current setup first and sort out thast damn IM!
The choice is yours, but as you say, power is a drug and only serves to confuse.
Cheers
