Coil per cyl!!!

Guys guys guys.

I have been thinking about the next project and am getting very close to a final price for it all without going too OTT, Little touches can happen later but to finalise and answer a few questions how would I go about doing this but running witht eh old school look like I am now.

Basiccaly I would like to get 5 coil packs against the bulk head and run a normal HT lead to the spark.

Doable or not???

If yes any ideas on coil packs ??

Totally doable, there are commercially available kits. I've seen these on an S4, MerlinS4 I think?

Will this work on the 3B Motronic though? Think I would have to convert to coil per cylinder ECU..

Ahh good point. What about stand alone ignition modules, you know like the kits you get to convert classic cars. You basically use the existing distributer to house a sensor and let the elecy ignition unit do the rest. Not sure how the ecu controls advance/retard on a 3B motor, that would be the only stumbling block to overcome. Infact there is a sensor in the dist already, hmm

Yeah, Mihnea was talking about doing a kit ages ago, I might look into changing to ABY Motronic actually, using the dizzy as just the Hall sensor. Along with the GT30 and 3" tubo back pipe... wait a minute, who said that

Hmm think I remember reading about tom's s2 and having something like this, not sure if i'm remembering correct or not but I know he changed over the loom but IIRc he had the gear come off the cam which stopped his dizzy working for something.

Let us know how you get on, and for serious bonus points if you get a chance whilst doing this a step by step guide wouldn't go amiss
