Thanks for the heads-up, but yeah I've seen that ad. Sadly he's modified it and will want too much I fear. The £700 is just a starting bid, wheras you can pick these up unmodified with good body/interior for not much more than that... Although maybe I should contact the guy and see what he'd want for it...
This brings up something I'd been meaning to ask you all though. I already have an 80Q. Mechanically it's mainly OK, bodywork is generally OK. Previous owner has left it with some scratches in the laquer coat on the bonnet and roof (quite deep but not through the lacquer), slight corrosion on the rear N/S arch and boot lip (nothing structural), and a not-too-pretty respray (blown in) down the sides and rear. I had the car jigged up by Audi (at great expense) when I bought it and noticed these things to check it wasn't hiding anything structural and the car was straight, and it's all OK on that front.
So, the other alternative would be to get this resprayed a nice S2 colour if I were going to convert it. How much would a decent respray cost, can the existing corrosion be cured successfully, and will it last long enough to warrant the expense? Since I'd be stripping down the car fully anyway for all this swap, much of the labour normally involved in a colour change respray would be saved...

I did hear a quote just for good paint from Germany once though of about £900 for a full respray! Hey, this brings up the issue of how you would match the lower body/trim of the S2 avant (it has colour coded door stops on the side, and lower door rubber skirts like the Coupe by the looks, to match in with the lower part of the front bumper?? The 80Q doesn't have these...
