    Front end respray

Started pulling my car to bits today. Some of you will remember that I had the surf school van run into my car whilst on holiday this summer and I've only just had the time and energy to start work on putting it right. The damage wasn't too bad, just the NS front wing dented in front of the wheel arch, but as I have some long term damage and loads of stone chips on the bumper and the bonnet needs a respray too (fade line from previous repair showing half way up the bonnet now) I decided to do the wing, bonnet and bumper. I figured I'd take the panels off and take them to the paint shop as they'll be easier to spray, no masking etc, I can remove all the badges, indicators, etc myself and be sure of a proper job and save some money. Unfortunately the NS wing I got off ebay is actually not that great so I'll probably get the old one beaten out. Also when the bumper was off I had a poke at some rust on the OS wing and soon had a large hole so I'm looking for another OS wing now.. I'll take some pics tomorrow of the progress so far, looks like it'll be off the road for a while..

          hi all
wouldnt it be better to buy new from Audi...............or copies from elsewhere??....than using used wings/fenders...unless they in great condition and not distorted from removal??

i only asking cos i need to replace wings on my 90 quattro(b3) and my Avant(b4)..................the b4 will be looked at in new year

i just asking for some of your ideas

The car is solid, its just the drivers side wing is shocking, thinking it may have been replaced with an ungalvanised one..

I'm sure I read in someone's project that they were deliberately using good used panel because new ones weren't as good - I can't remember exactly why though. Do new panels still come zinc glavanised?

It looks like it has rusted in the usual place John. It's where the edge of the bumper rubs against the wing, wearing through the paint and galvanise coating.
I thought mine were bad with a little surface rust hidden behind the bumper, but that's shocking.

On a side note. Your vacuum reservoir looks different to mine.

I know ABY's are different to my 7A, i know as i took one out of an S2 Avant it was in the driver side wing. I assume 7A and 3B must both be the same as that pic

Ah-ha. My copy of the FA shows a change at N-004461>. I'm guessing John's car is later than this. My reservoir is probably the same as the 7A.
