            • Great video

              I can't believe you're ditching the I5 engine for a TT-RS though

              • Thanks!

                About the engine, the TT-RS is still a 5 cylinder turbo. The arguments to choose for this engine in relation to the S2 engine is:
                - The engine is much and much lighter;
                - It is 6cm shorter, because the belt are place on the back side above the clutch;
                - The engine head is a very good flow, even better then a ported S2 head;
                - It uses variable camshaft timing technology, with our DTA computer we can tune it much better in low and high revs;
                - It uses a chain instead of a belt.

                • whats the going rate of a tt-rs engine now?

                  • Well in the Netherland a second hand TT-RS engine is very hardly to get. We were able to buy the US version it. The engine is build in 2007 and has run about 7.000KM. The engine is sold in the US as an atmospherical engine, with low compression (for example in the VW Jetta).

                    Because of the low compression it is easy to put a turbo on it. Without changing anything about the engine it is safely capable of 600nm of torque.

                    We have bought it for less then 3.000EUR.

                    • Good luck, i recently shared some 2.5 rabbit engine pics on this forum, looks like a promising engine!

                      • TT-RS engine rules. Especially the variable camshaft timing setup is really interesting for track usage.

                        looking forward to the next tune.

                          • It's Van Kronenburg though, making numbers in stead of proper mapping/drivability.
                            Don't think they used the cam adjusters, clearly didn't use FSI technology...
                            Buggy owner Mr. Franssen used to have a 1.8T power plant before this one co build by a friend, GT35 & Roots compressor, sick torque curve...

                            Back to the TT-RS IL5:http://www.amt.nl/PageFiles/21117/00...30_motoren.pdf
                            Some nice pics ripped by the Dutch from German ATZ magazine showing that they did learn, for instance clearing the main caps at mounting surface, cross drilling waterways to improve combustion ring temperature.

                            Check the torque curve comparison at the bottom, that's diesel-like response by using FSI technology.

                            • Thanks for sharing, very interesting article. Our tuner is going to use the cam adjusters, it seems that they can't be used when you are going to make more refs then stock, but that is not what we intend to do.
