Thanks for the photo none the less. Maybe somebody might risk doing it for real?

    Kind regards.

The Avatar picture looks a bit like Cricket Green, a colour that's hard to capture in photos IME.

Sachs website record the 3b 7a Kv ng and nm engine codes to use the same pressure plate.

So i take it that this pressure plate is correct ?

Is that timing pin there - standard item? Or the flywheel was modified already?

Yep that the timing pin is ther, standard - Flywheel is going to the machine shop to loose some weight.

Can anybody confirm that the VAG part number for the 7a pressure plate - sachs number is 883082999707.
audi have 2 different part numbers for 7a and 3b pressure plates, yet sachs have one part number for both engine codes.

Yes that looks like the 3b on the pressureplate side, on the crank side it looks different, I would say that look explains why the 7a fw is heavier than the 3b model.

Otherwise it looks the the same.

The sachs plate 707 that you specified is the one to go with fahemoo.

I put the Flywheel on a diet.

Ordered new timing pins and locating dowels for the flywheel.(not shown on pics)
Everything is off to be balanced and then hopefully we can start to install.

@ Jamo - I recall reading from Marcos stroker post that 92.6mm crank on 220mm block is capable of revving to 8500rpm safely. have you done the math on this ? - I havent. Other wise i have just wasted alot of money on a good head job for my car.

                    * Faheemo goes to pull out calculator and sharpen pencil *
I haven't but Christian has the same crank on his 034 project at motorgeek and revs to 7500 rpm, Javad reports it isn't very smooth at that level though.

That is not a good idea... To use the stroker crank in the standard block, you are going to have to use shorter rods then is ideal. You'd probaby end up using something around 144mm (the stock length for the 86.4mm stroke). The key to engine longevity at elevated horsepower is a good rod...

Yip 1.55 rod to stroke ratio.
                      I'll live with 7300 rpm.

Before i started this wave of mods, i ran the 3071 with standard crank and SPM rods.
I made a huge error by not measuring the rods and getting them balanced.
My SPM rods differed in mass by 12 grams.
The engine was hugely unbalanced and very un -smooth. right from about 4000 rpm.
I only found out when balancing this setup, all the whilst i thought the car lost its smoothness becos of the aluminium flywheel.
But when we pulled the engine apart the bearings looked hardly troubled.
I guess i only ran the un balanced rods for a year.

what was the sense of the unbalanced rods after 4000rpm?
i inserted rods and pistons(scat/mahle) without balancing anything to the flywheel and crank, due to lack of 5cyl balancing equipement here in Greece.

Peter from PKM said at one point(dont remember where i read this) that you dont need to balance anything if you dont exceed 500hp on any setup.
Buying good quality products is a must i guess to fit this equation...

My SPM Rods had max difference between them less than 2 grams.

Engine has got to be in balance - else you will run bearings.

I wrongly assumed that the Rods would be a matched set and handed it over to my engine builder.
There was 12 grams difference between them.
This will put an engine out of balance, same if you have different mass in the pistons.

Well, now i have balanced the entire setup, you can see the holes drilled on the 1st two fillets of the crank. thers also some filing on the other sides of the crank.

I also ran into a problem with the ARP main (bearing) stud kit i bought.
The Studs wher too short. They only took 3 turns into the block.
The box says Audi 5 cyl main kit 204 5404 , but defn wrong stuff for ABY block.
I used washers from my old head bolts, and High tensile bolts.

Next Problem is the Piston rings.
They need to be gapped correctly, and i dont have a Ring file.
Anyone in southern africa have one i can borrow ? cant seem to find one.
