Glad you got it sorted, i noticed it made the sound a little quieter too and different. I guess its quieter due to the equal length tubes, i.e. the sound waves arn't fighting against each other and are flowing in a uniform manor. I didnt think i liked the sound at first but it grows on you. I also have a remus back box too that is a little noisy.
Can I ask the part number of the tranny shield, would it fit an S2, how much does it retail for, and lastly does it need any additional brackets or does it use existing vacant holes ?
btw, didn't think a standard ACE engine would safely rev to 7800 rpm ? Would the rest of the std spec of an ACE engine not make such high revs pointless ?
I'm assuming a std Competition's engine output as 138 / 140 bhp ?

Kind regards.
i will take a look for the PN, im sure it costs too much new (probably around 300€).
it only needs minor work to fit perfectly, 5 minutes and it is ready. bolts on stock bolts/holes, and im sure it fits on all b3 and b4 cars.
yeah the compi engine is the standard ace engine, nothing special about it, at least on paper. i have asked other competition owners about the revs, because my fuel pump is quite noisy, and it is a little strange that a high revving engine just dies out at 6500rpm. i also tried some other ecu and an other used fuel pump and no change at all.
Thanks for the prompt replies. Will look out for a s/h one. Never knew they existed.
What cams are in your engine?
My ACE engine fwd B4 Avant doesn't like going over 5.5 / 6,000rpm. Try changing the inlet cam to a KR from a Mk2 Golf 16v. I don't think you have to change both cams as one of the ACE cams is the same as the KR cams.
A set of suitable Schrick cams would nice if comparatively expensive.
I presume you'll never stick a G60 charger on it to get the extra 40 bhp ? Really would be nice / sound great on your car. Listen to a G60 16v on you-tube, even better in person.
A Rotrex would be nice if not oem, easy enough to fit.
Here are some pics of the heatshield, It is in 2 halves, one half bolts to the support brackets for the inlet manifold and the other half bolts to that and also comes down and bolts to the airbox fixing point. It is very fiddly to fit lol. I had to make a little add-on bit that i riveted to the back, just infront of the TB. The heat had started to melt the wire for the TPS. It wasn't the easiest thing to make but you look like you got skills so i would of thought you cold make something as good, if not better
