I've got confidence it'll get sorted, at this stage I have to! Will get an email off today. The good thing that could come from all of this is that there'll be somewhere that has a jig to make a 3" downpipe for an S2! If one was already available then I'd have gone that route. I'd already tried the Milltek downpipe and it wasn't made properly. The 034 one is notorious for not fitting without some tweaks, as for other places, they're an unknown. Just have to go back for version 2. The downpipe idea works pretty well if you're on a budget. If you start with an RS2 pipe then all the better!

They don't, they all are custom made. There are options for them but only in europe from PK motorsports.

The 034 off the shelf system does not fit the S2 very well and needs modification to fit.

Regarding the system, it's not fine 2.5" from under the drivers seat, the stock system is 2.5 from the dp.

A good 3" system would be 3" to centre box and the either 2.75 or 2.5 over the drive shaft on the Coupe.

Andy I hope you get it all sorted out and get the system "you" want not the system people think you want.
That's what I meant - whilst Pro-Speed are excellent at what they do, for something as critical to performance as a downpipe (granted, the rest of the system is still important which is why we go to places which have a good reputation for these, as opposed to PowerFlow) I would definately go to someone who knows the Audi engine and it's characteristics - I believe there's a certain company in the South Yorkshire area that would be ideal for this sort of thing, as are a couple of others no doubt!

I do have to ask though, what difference does it make within a foot or so as to where you put the restriction of flow?

Sorry though - this isn't intended to make Andy be happy with what he has - obviously he wants what he asked for and shouldn't settle for any less, buyer's perogative and all that - I just want to understand the mechanics of it a bit better, as my last 'high performance' turbo was a 135bhp 700cc turbo with an exhaust shorter than my forearm!

Exhaust design is not only about flow it's about length, if you have a shorter exhaust you can get away with a smaller bore pipe as it will flow the same as longer pipe with a larger bore.

The restriction will create back pressure, the further away from the turbo and downpipe the restriction the less backpressure is created.

Putting 2.5 by the drivers seat will create extra back pressue, removal of the stock cats and replacing them with either de-cats or hi flow sports cats is a testiment to that.

I think that car feels better with the system on although it was quite a cold night last night and I was in the left seat, not my normal one! That would indicate that the overall system is better than the original but I feel that it coul dbe better still and as it's not what I asked for I'm damned if I'm accepting it straight off. Overall I would prefer to get it modified to be as I requested so thatI don't have to replace the system when a GT3071 falls into the engine bay and becomes horribly stuck in there such that I have to leave it there

Bear in mind, that GT3071 will move around a bit, as the turbine housing is larger than that on K24, a few mm here and there. Had to modify brand spanking new 3" DP to fit with Wagner EM, 3071 and "stock" wastegate flanges...
All quattro products have been dermatologically tested, and are safe for daily use.

It's funny you say that 2 forum members have said the same thing.

1 had the hotside milled down 5-10 mm to keep the downpipe stock.

Maybe you're doubling your work by having the downpipe made now then, by the sounds of it?

It's a side issue to his current work which isn't up to Andy's spec in reality, and it's easily resolved.

The other option is RS2 and that really is OE fitting. I'm taking the k24 to it's extreme for a laugh really as big turbos are way into the future in terms of £££s. Anyway, I didn't get what I asked for. Have drafted an email so will get that off to Pro Speed this afternoon.

I thought a flexi pipe was a must-have on the manifold alright. Looks like some stress involved here, and not perfect 1st time round - BUT the difference is the company involved appears to give a **** - and that goes a long way to getting the desired end result.

Hope it gets sorted without too much grief Andy - would be cool to know there is a somewhat reliable source of 3" downpipe at the end of it.

Did they connectorise the centre box nicely so you can bypass it easily enough to see what sound levels are like with and without ?

That sports CAT install looks quite neat - its a small wee thing and the pipe seems to be nice and high in the centre of the car.

Yeah, the job overall is good apart from the rub at the rear, the sports cat is small and neat too, even the hybrid DP is OK but not what I'm after. The centre box is not removable yet but I'm going to have this sorted so that it's 3" up to the centre box and then either has the silencer there and drops to 2.5" or has a pipe to do so, win-win

Notice as well the use of a Mikalor clamp on the reducer rather than a crap clamp, that's good work. I need to get some new rubbers tho as the old ones were re-used and they're pretty tired.

Will be in touch with Charlie later today, shall put up an interest thread in 3" DPs.
